Hey! You should know that Nikon has released a newer version of this product: the Nikon Coolpix S6100.
Nikon Coolpix S6000
Editor's Review
Nikon's S6000 looks like a decent point-and-shoot with an above-average 7x optical zoom. The inclusion of 720p HD video is standard for point-and-shoots, though still a nice touch. We've tested all of this year's Nikon S series cameras besides the S6000; the others showed a significant improvement in image quality compared to older models, so we'll give this one the benefit of the doubt. It's now out of production (replaced by the Nikon S6100) and the price is seeing the typical late-life spike, we're knocking the grade down a notch.

I'd appreciate your comment
But by the same token, 2 megapixel pictures are tiny and don't capture as much detail. We think that 8-10 megapixels is a happy medium; all this 12mp and up on compact cameras is getting ridiculous.
But if it were me, I would recommend going with Canon A series or the Panasonic ZS7.
Is the Nikon S6000 comparable in quality?
Overall: I bought one for myself few days back and so far, its been fairly good.
The good: Compact form; dedicated video-recording button; fast to focus; decent picture quality.
The bad: Glossy rear shell attracts fingerprints; battery can be charged in-camera only; slight lens flare in backlighting situations.
The bottom line: The S6000 packs a long-zoom lens in a small package and has decent features and performance to boot.
Rated 7 out of 10.
I only need good picture quality with 6 - 8 X optical zoom ...
Does not bother much about the "movie mode".
Powershot series seems no midway zoom range ... from 3.3/4X to straight 10/12X !
Any suggestion please ?
