Editor's Review
The Nikon S6100 is a mid-range point-and-shoot, best for casual shooters who want the added versatility of a little extra zoom. It's a 7x zoomer with a large, crisp 3-inch touch LCD and 720p video capability -- all nice specs. At a bloated 16 megapixels, we're a bit worried about graininess in images, but compared to other mid-zooming point-and-shoots, it's par for the course, and the most aesthetically pleasing among its competitors.

Nikon Coolpix S6100 Comments & Questions (write your own!)
Faulty lens function (Patricia Mack — 07/23/2012)
I've owned two Nikon Coolpix and both have had lens problems. One failed to zoom within 6 months and the 2nd simply stuck. Nikon customer service refused to fix the problem without a charge of $185. Nikon is not what it used to be. Junky and cheap hardware. I'm finished with Nikon.

Unhappy (Jim — 10/16/2011)
I've had the 6100 for about 6 months. Many of the pictures, mostly outdoor shots either came out with weird colored stripes across the picture or were just entirely black Lots of other pictures turned out fine. The battery didn't hold much charge. I'm going to return the camera to Costco and try a Panasonic Lumix.

Love the S6100! (Tom Birdsell — 05/21/2011)
I bought the S6100 a week ago and am really impressed with everything about it. The manual on CD is a pain for me as well, but I solved that by copying it to a flash drive and had it printed and spiral bound at the local Office Depot. You'll end up with an easier to read manual than the small one they could have elected to include. Also, check out the touch-up features like perspective correction and D-Lighting.

Wow. I like PDFs because they are searchable. Manuals aren't so much to be read as to be referred to, IMHO.

PDF vs. Printed Manual (Tom Birdsell — 05/24/2011)
True, the "searchability" of a .pdf is great, but there are times when I do not want to fire up the computer, let alone sit at my computer, just to look something up while I'm using the camera in the field. Inevitably discover features I didn't know existed until I stumbled upon them during a relaxed, casual read through of the manual, something I'm less inclined to do while looking at the manual while the computer is on. As far as printing manuals, it's not something I would suggest on something very thick unless I was using a laser printer. An inkjet is just too costly with the price of multiple color cartridges factored in. I also print up my own hard copy of a manual when trying to learn a new software program, unless, as in the case of Photoshop, you're better off simply buying a third-party book to study due to all the color illustrations involved.

QUESTION? (Corinne Peavy — 04/06/2011)
I have read reviews on the other coolpix, and i was wondering besides the touchscreen, what really makes this camera different from the others .??? I just bought it. I haven't bought a camera in a long long time and the users manual is on a CD which is not convenient if you need to look at it for reference, thats about all that I'm unhappy with, the camera is great. Touchscreen is worth every penny.
