Editor's Review
Nikon's higher-end S-series models have really impressed in the last year or so. They are responsive and have the latest backside illuminated CMOS sensors. The S6300 is pretty compact for its impressive 10x zoom lens and offers key upgrades to last year's S6200. Overall, a great choice for a traveler who likes to pack light.

Nikon COOLPIX S6300 Comments & Questions (write your own!)
Peggy Hodges (03/05/2013)
I need to take pictures for ebay business. I sometimes don't focus well. Would this be a good camera for me? Or suggest one for me.

This is a quality point-and-shoot model. Just remember to push the shutter release half way in order to focus, then push all the way to take the shot.

Shutter Speed (Kelly — 01/03/2013)
Does this camera have a quick shutter speed? I have young children that are always on the go and I want to be able to focus on them moving without the blurr. I also want to be able to hit the button back to back for multiple pictures seconds apart without the hang up. I had a Kodak camera that sounds just like this one. The screen went black on me and I need a replacement. I hated that Kodak, it always hung up in the middle of taking a picture.

In proper lighting, this camera should be able to freeze the action pretty well. Plus it does have the continuous burst mode to take several pictures quickly.

I need a camera that takes good low light or no liht photos like in a house with no power also take 500 -1000 pics a day quick without sacrificeing quality time wasted waiting for a flash to recharge battery has me hung up i need to change and go no time to charge

For the best results in low light you should use a tripod and a long shutter speed. If you really need to capture moving subjects, I'd suggest buying a DSLR and 50mm f1.8 kit lens. Try the Canon T3i.

Is the battery rechargable? Can you take good moving pictures like freeze them in a way?
reply to this comment
Chris Weigl (11/27/2012)
Yes it comes with a rechargeable lithium-ion battery. Freezing your subject depends on the shutter speed. If you're in a well-lit area you'll have no problem.

How about macro pix with this S6300?
reply to this comment
Chris Weigl (11/14/2012)
It does pretty well, actually. The best compact cameras for macro tend to be the extended zoom cameras, many of which can take add-ons, but most compacts do a pretty decent job these days.

where is the card located in this camera? in the same awkward place with the batteries as in the previous Cool Pix?
Thank you-

Best Digital for 2012 (J. Griffin — 06/21/2012)
Well, I thought I was sold on the Sony WX-50 until reading all the reviews of image quality, now looking at this camera. I am comparing this, Canon SX-230 (260 is out of my budget right now) and the Canon Elph300. Going to Disney World in December, and I want to be able to take great photos in low light and shoot good HD video with a decent zoom. I basically want it all for under $250, doesn't everyone? I am now using older Kodak products so I think anything will be an upgrade to what I have; I just want to make the best decision with my money. Of those 3 which would you recommend, size is not really a concern. Thanks!

Chris Weigl (06/21/2012)
The Canon will definitely have the best image quality of the bunch. The WX50 is actually pretty good too if you don't put the images under a loupe, but yes the Nikon is a bit better (although not as responsive or small). The 300 HS offers a great deal if you can find one, but it doesn't match the zoom range of the S6300. I'd say go with the Nikon, zoom can't be replaced later!
