FE-370 WHITE SCREEN PROBLEM (Kreesha — 08/28/2012)
Hello I have 2 Olympus FE-370 cameras and both screens are totally white. Is there a way to fix this problem or is it cheaper to buy a new camera? I am very disappointed that this happened on both cameras same exact model.

It's definitely cheaper to buy a new camera than get something like that fixed. It's definitely odd that it happened on both models, though.

Yes, it shoots 640x480 VGA mode, which is about VHS quality.

i set the image quality to the vga setting, however it only allows me to take 4 pictures at a time. how can i fix this?

Well, you can reset the camera back to factory default settings. But when you say you can only shoot 4 shots at a time, how large is your memory card? If you have none, that's your problem.

I have had an Olympus FE-370 for less than a year. It did the same thing. Turn it on. White screen. I never dropped it nor did it get wet. It just failed, and after a trouble free service with no complaints, point and shoot, ease I was surprised.
I just threw it away and I will buy a different camera. I am done with Olympus after that pathetic little short life feature they'd somehow snuck in to the camera. Now that I see the same problem befell another, I don't regret disposing of the thing.

How do I get rid of the blurriness? (kberg — 11/21/2009)
This camera is supposed to be excellent as far as eliminating blurriness with it's dual image stabilization, but my biggest complaint is that almost all my photos are blurry! I've tried several different settings, but with no luck. I mostly take photos of my 1- and 3- year old boys who RARELY are sitting perfectly still and the slightest movement causes a blur. What am I doing wrong?? I've only had this camera for a year and am already thinking of replacing it.

Chances are, you're trying to shoot the image by depressing the shutter all at once. With the camera's shutter delay (every point and shoot has one) the image is either blurry or suffers from camera shake as a result. What I would recommend is prefocusing. This is where you put your subject right in the middle and press the shutter half way to lock in your focus, then recompose and press the image the rest of the way. Another tip is to use the flash, even in daylight. This will freeze your subject and cause it to "pop." And if you have a kids or sports preset, I'd use that as well.

The camera needs you to direct it to make the shutter open and close as quickly as possible (within the constraints of how much light is available to make a fully exposed image). There are several ways to do this:
1) force the flash to operate whether it is needed or not. This will basically freeze the image by taking a very fast exposure.
2) increase the ISO film speed. The higher the ISO setting, the faster the shutter works. The tradeoff is graininess in the image if you go too high. Try different setting and see what you like best.
3) Scene settings on the mode dial- Number 5 is the Sports Scene which is likely the best for those moving targets called children (or in my case grand-children).
4) Intelligent Auto setting might work if it senses the motion and fires the flash, but then you can do that manually as well.
5) Double Image Stabilization- this mode stabilizes the image as much as can be done, BUT if you move the camera more than a little and/or the subject moves more than a little, then it can overpower this function and result in blurry photos. In other words, it can only do so much.
Try these different settings/modes and see your results. If you are still not satisfied, next try combining more than one of these 5 options. If you still can't get an acceptable result, you may need to stop by a camera shop and let them check it out for proper functioning.
Remember the basics--your camera has to have enough light to take a good picture so either shoot outdoors with sunlight, use lots of lights indoors, and/or turn on the flash.

True that. But I would go any higher than 400, maybe 800 (but that would be pushing it) on the ISO. Anything faster and the noise will just be too obvious. In low light, you could consider adding a superbright LED camera light. Camera Bright ( camerabright.com ) makes some good ones that screw into your tripod mount. They won't help past the normal range of the flash, but they may just give you the additional light boost you need to hold back the noise demons.

Brand name doesn't denote compatibility except that the cheaper the card, the more likely it'll fail. But Sandisk is a top tier memory card maker. But SD cards won't work in the FE370. A micro SD (MASD-1 is required) will. But the 370 takes an xD-Picture Card™ (1GB, 2GB).

Exactly correct! This camera takes either the XD cards OR the MICRO-SD cards, typically now used in cell phones. Info on supported sizes should be available fro Olympus web site...

I think they're pretty close in the mid ISO settings. (I give a slight edge to the SD1100IS for color accuracy). Not sure outside of that, though.

Usually if the charger is blinking, it means there is a problem with your battery. This could either be improper placement of the battery within the charger, or a battery that is pretty much dead.

Terrible pics

I took pics of my truck. It is white and has a black stripe down the side. I cannot get a good pic of it, the black stripe turns into segmented lines when the pic comes out. I tried everything to no avail. I took pics of a friends RV and it has lines on the side and the same thing happens. I am ready to trash it. I had a 2 mega pixal Olympus and it took better pics than this one.

I bought this camera & tested it for 10 days. I'm an amateur shutterbug who takes pics of landmarks while traveling. Mostly I use the auto settings. I buy a new digicam every 24 months or so. I carry 1 charged battery pack while another is recharging, so immediately sought to buy a second battery...and that's where the problem came. Pros: beautiful pictures on screen, price of $99 at Costco (9/08/09) is super good, easy to use if you've owned a digicam in past 5 yrs. CONS: Very slow shutter speed. WHY I RETURNED THIS CAMERA: could not find the Olympus brand replacement Lith-ion batteries anywhere in a retail store. If batteries are hard to find now, it can only be more difficult in a year. You CAN find them online, but when you need a battery now, you likely won't find one for this camera. So back it went to Costco...
