Editor's Review
Another run-of-the-mill slimline point-and-shoot. Nothing about this camera stands out to us, though it is relatively slim for a $150 model.

Good Camera, broke within a year (David Munson — 11/24/2012)
Bought the FE-4020 for our son last Christmas. He has taken alot of pictures and they have been of good quality. I like the camera, but this year at the fair we thought the battery was dead because the lens would not go back in. We brought it home and charged the battery and it still doesn't work.

Sounds like dust or sand got into the lens and is jamming it. Unfortunately you'd have to send the camera in for repair or just buy a new one.

Buyer beware - stay away from this camera!! (Shutterbug Professional Photography — 11/06/2011)
I got this for Christmas. I wanted a small point and shoot to take to small parties where I didn't want the big bulk of my Canon - since it won't fit in my purse. Basically, this camera sucks!! I read the user manual before I used, and no matter what you do -- it still takes average photos some of the time. Even when you are in a bright light setting that should produce a beautiful crisp picture some of them turn out gray with so many pixels it looks like you took it at night. VERY Disappointing. And face recognition my butt. It constantly tries to focus on something way off in the background even in portrait mode when the face is front and center. Not to mention the s..l..o..w shutter speed. Your subject has smiled and moved on before the flash goes and shutter opens. My advice - stay away from this camera!!!

The problem with your statement is that it's a freakin' point and shoot, not an SLR. We're talking entry level, turn the power on, take a picture camera. I, myself, have a Panasonic Lumix, but if I was going to buy a little slim, pocket sized, point and shoot camera, then that's what I f'n expect.
Don't go blaming people who don't have degrees in photography for being disappointed w/a point and shoot. I've used plenty of them that do great just taking 'em out of the box, turning on the power, and taking pics. And that's exactly what they're supposed to do.
With the amount of supposed "superior" technology we have in this new day and age, the simple fact is that this is inexcusable. ESPECIALLY from a company with the name Olympus.
Now go be condescending somewhere else, jackwagon.

Feel the Love? (John — 07/26/2011)
Nice X-mas gift, but after a few months it just stopped working - wouldn't power up. I returned it to Olympus, and here's how they responded:

Yep, that's why you'll rarely see us recommend any Olympus point-and-shoots. Their PEN interchangeable-lens cameras are great, but steer clear of the point-and-shoots. Hear lots of stories like this.

I have had the camera for a year now and hate it. some pics turn out great, but it seems all the good pics turn out blurry. read the manual and tried changing different options, didn't matter. Going to buy a new one and give it to my three year old to play with.

Price (Peg — 02/04/2011)
Why is there such a difference in price? I bought mine from Kohls and now i see them other places so much lower.

It's one of last year's models, so prices vary wildly. Some places just want to clear them out, others still try to get full price for them.

This camera is worst i ever have (serge — 02/02/2011)
I had about 5 digital cameras from 2002. and my first Minolta F200 5meg produce 2-3 time better picture then new olimpus fe4020. I had FE4020 camera free from my company award(new in box). I think this camera not worth $50. Noise level huge, Picture not sharp. colors fade with bright noise. My kids panasonic camera do 2 times better. I am not talk about my new Sony SLR, I can not compare to Sony at all( olimpus have 5-10% quality of Sony picture. My mam had 5 years old cheap( $70 at that time) Kodak digital. That work even better. I am really dissapointed about Olimpus FE4020. That is 2011 now and any Panasonic entry $120 camera will outbit 3 times old Olimpus crap.

Just bought mine and was surprised that it had a rechargable battery. What kind of a battery life does this camera have? How many pictures before you have to recharge? Anne (12-27-10)

Olympus rates it as 400 images. But as always your mileage may vary and I'd bank on 2/3 to half that number.

Anyone who is saying this camera is not worth the money or that it is not good at all, has no experience with cameras. Try learning a lot more about the functions and how to achieve the kind of pictures you want and maybe YOUR pictures will turn out better. It is not the cameras fault.

Bad Macro Functions (James Miller — 09/17/2010)
My first Olympus was an XA-1, and still have it. Was shopping at Staples, looking for a camera that had macro capabilities. Wanted a more expensive Sony Cybershot, as had great luck with these - minus they only last about 2 years.
Opted for the Fe 4020 for all the special features, and the two macro modes really caught my eye. Now, not sure if I got a dud, but had nothing but issues trying to take macro shots with this camera. Have written Olympus support, was supposed to hear back in 48 hours. It's been three weeks.
For the special shots, and the normal shots the camera is good. Picks up glare-back where most other cameras would not. Should of stuck with a Sony Cybershot - never had an issue with Sony's on macro shots.
Luckily I got the Staples extended warranty service, which I'm going to ask for a replacement camera.

pricey for me (nelle — 08/02/2010)
Just got mine yesterday for around 200USD, pricey compared to others who bought the same.
Haven't checked the performance, but will be... soon.

Disappointed (Nicole — 06/11/2010)
Just got mine for around $100. Not going to lie, this camera is not all that great. It doesn't save settings so every time you turn on the camera you have to change it to the setting you want. Take blurry photos inside dark places like bars and restaurants regardless of the setting the camera is on. Planning on trying to sell mine on Ebay.

Danielle (06/22/2010)
There is a setting on the camera to save the setting you have put before turning it off. Go into the setup menu and go down to where it says save settings or something like that and turn it on. Then when you turn on and off the camera the settings save. As for the blurry pictures there is a setting for that also. I wouldn't give up on the camera right away.

Blurry Pics (Nosheen — 07/30/2010)
Hey I recently bought the FE 4020 and whenever you click with the Flash off the pictures get really really blurred. Is it a Camera setting gone wrong or something else.
I haven't really been blown off by its results till now. Hope the cam is much better than the reviews suggest otherwise money wasted :(

Not worth the money (Gwen R — 05/17/2010)
My rating is not good. We have a Kodak Easy share 8.0 mega pixel That takes BETTER pictures than this 14 mega pixel Olympus. I think I will be taking it back to the store. Only worth about 60 bucks, at most.

picture memory (dave — 05/04/2010)
How many pictures will the built in memory card hold? Will I need to purchase a "special" one to insert to hold or save alot of pictures
reply to this comment
Liam McCabe (05/05/2010)
It has just 18MB of internal memory, which is basically nothing. 2-3 pictures maximum. So yes, like 98% of digital cameras, this needs a memory card, any SD or SDHC card should work.
reply to this comment
Fiona (07/10/2010)
It's only 2-3 maximum if you set it on the highest-resolution.
You can change it to a lower resolution (which still gives good picture quality) and that, way you get heaps more pictures to take. (:

Great camera, great price (Sam McCubbin — 05/01/2010)
Picked mine up for 99 bucks, nice little camera for the money. I have a high-end SLR, but it can be cumbersome when you go places. So I picked this little compact model for convience. Nice screen, nice features, comes with a really nice carry case. Good entry camera for parents, kids, wife, etc. Glad I bought it. Sam in Nebraska

This camera sucks...big time.
Picture quality of a 2Megapixel camera is better.
After using it for 1.5years the pictures just suddenly turned pinkish and camera is useless.
Waste of money.
