Olympus FE-130
Editor's Review
The Olympus FE-130 does everything it can to make things easy on novice users. The FE-130 features a comfortable in-camera help guide, which gives users a step-by-step explanation of each of the camera's functions. In essence, it serves as a digital manual that's always just a button away. The large, 2.0" LCD screen gives an adequate preview for framing and cropping, and at a very low price point of around $179, the FE-130 is a good choice for casual users. We suggest you also consider the FE-140, which is virtually identical except for a larger, 6.1 megapixel sensor.

Olympus FE-130 Comments & Questions (write your own!)
Another tip is to go to the Olympus website and look for firmware updates. Download and install them.
If your camera is out of warranty, understand that the average cost of a camera repair is around $180. As such, it may cost more to repair than it is really worth. The rule of thumb is that if the estimate for repair is north of 50% what you paid for it, you're better off taking that money and buying a newer and upgraded model.
But if you want to have it repaired, then your best bet is to go with Olympus directly.

Thanks so much!
Taking the memory card out and reinserting works for some people.
What I did recently was to read the card in a card reader with a file recovery software,Zero Assumption, to make sure the files are there.
When I put it back to the camera it was OK. This was about 2 months ago.
If the broken plastic part is on the 'inside' of the cover and its absence is causing the camera to think the cover is open... hmm. I wouldn't ordinarily recommend jamming things in there, but a little corner of folded-up electrical tape stuck to where the missing piece was might trigger the sensor.
Do you still have the little plastic piece?
If you just need to download, I'd run out and spend twenty bucks or so on a card reader. But I guess you said you need to take more pictures.
As far as repairs, if the piece is broken you're going to need a new one and that will mean ordering from the manufacturer or from Ebay or somewhere like that, so that won't help you right now. You'll have to think of something makeshift instead. Let me know if you have any success.
Thanks for your thoughts. It's the plastic piece that broke off and has probably been vacummed up by hotel housekeeping. No chance of purchasing anything here as most is in Russian and cyrillic. I'm wondering if you or anyone might know of a way to override the "Card Cover Open" reading, which basically disables ANY of the buttons on my computer except for Power. I think I have to take it in when I get back as the piece may have broken into the camera, though nothing makes a noise when I move it. Oh well, thanks!
Good luck. =/
The electrical parts of the switch are soldered to the camera body with 2 soldering points, on LH and RH of the switch, if you look at the bottom side of the camera (lift up the little black plastic sheet that covers one soldering point). i left the switch in place and connected the 2 soldering points with a small copper thread from an ordinary multi-thread electrical cable, using a fine pointed 15W soldering iron (5 Euros). i dont know if this action damages the camera and dont know the function of the switch, but my FE-140 is working again !
i forgot to mention the first steps:
Remove the camera back by removing all 7 screws on the camera body. Pull off the back carefully. It is 1 loose plastic piece. Then you are able see the switch environment (i needed a loupe).
I read many pages to find a solution to our prob. Your answer is abolutely perfect. Thank you so much. I tested it and it works.

Please someone, I just need a picture of a camera with the card cover open, showing me the switch.
I think I see where it used to be in my camera and I just want a picture for confirmation before i take off 3 board layers inside the camera to bypass what used to be a switch.
I seriously think my camera has lost the switch lever and the top off the switch assembly, leaving only the bottom half of the switch case/housing attached to the board.
If you have pics, please contact me. I can even host the pics on my website, as every link to images in other groups/forums are dead or removed. If I can get mine fixed, I'll even post a series of pics from my repair and some nice instructions for everyone.
One thing, the plastic part which flicked off with me was the bit where it says "Push to eject", it was really tacky plastic compared to the rest of the camera.
on the page of the above link you see a photo of the solution with the copper wire.
Is there a way to reboot or reset the camer?
This could be a number of things. Is there a specific problem with the photos?
Try going into the camera's Setup menu and restoring factory defaults. This will put back all original settings and maybe then your Auto photos will turn out better.
If you've done all the experimenting you can do, then I would call and ask about repairs. There may be an internal issue with the camera. Sorry I can't give you more detailed info... it is really tricky to diagnose without seeing it, but you sound like you know what you're doing so I would bet on it being a camera problem rather than a user error.
I have the same problem --- where do you live? I need the same repair but I'm afraid to do it all by myself! The tiny white plastic post looks like it is worn away from age (3 yrs) maybe overheated and cause it to break the tip off. I guess the little white tip needs to make contact with the door in order for it to recognize the card as being in place. HELP!

FE-130
After a long, long search of the manual, I finally found the part that says the FE-130 has no microphone so cannot record sound ( olympusamerica.com/cpg_sect... ). I found several confusing sections, such as one that says when recording movies, "noise reduction" is automatically turned on (by noise in this context means image noise). And I found one that says the bundled software lets you play movies and slide shows with audio (but the audio is whatever music or sound you like, for example your favorite holiday songs).
We'll update the specs for this camera to say "movie mode, no sound".

We already have handycam from panasonic. Photo print and clarity is not up to the mark. So we want to buy digicam, please suggest which is the best and economical.

Looking in the lowest price range, the cameras users like best are:
Pentax Optio 10 ( digitalcamera-hq.com/digita... )
Panasonic DMC-LS2 ( digitalcamera-hq.com/digita... ), and
Olympus FE-130 ( digitalcamera-hq.com/digita... )
Keep in mind that most digital cameras can take high quality photographs, and while better cameras sometimes have better optics, etc., the main factor in getting sharp photos is to hold the camera steady and shoot in enough light.

My parents and me had seperate cameras, both made by Olympus. The first camera is having the 'Card cover closed' problem, making it impossible to take any pictures. The second, has stopped working completely.

I got this camera on christmas and i loved it! even though you cannot hear any sound on movies and i cannot find OXYRIDE battries anywhere(only 2 kinds of battries you can use for the camera: Oxyride and something else for the charger.)it is really cool and fun. my 2 year old cousin loves getting his picture taken, and i love taking pictures if him, but for people who want to buy the camera, find oxyride battries or the charger w/ the battries NOW if you love to use your camera ALOT!!!!

I bought this camera 7 months ago, it was my first digital camera, and I didn't really know too much about them then.
It has absolutely no manual settings, making it extremely difficult for a budding photographer to grow.
I have had nothing but problems from this camera, within the first month I noticed that the camera was freezing, and the screen becoming pixelated. This continued and worsened as the months went on. Elevating to the camera not turning on or off, and it telling me that the battery cover was open when it was securely shut.
I took it back to the store Where I had purchased it about 7 weeks ago to get it sent away to be fixed. I received it back yesterday, and upon wanting to take a picture today, when I turned the camera on, all I got what a white screen, and it would then not turn off.
I am taking it back to the store this afternoon and demanding my money back. It would be much better spent on another camera, of better quality.

camera is relatively cheap and you get about your money's worth. no sound to video; in this age of technology that is a disgrace.Your thumb grip tends to open the battery compartment a lot by accident when turning the mode dial. overall fine. few quid more and i imagine you could get a lot better value.

overall the camera is a decent buy and the 5.1 mp just hits the spot.the various modes are really user friendly and well explained. the only drawback is that the video does not support sound.that can be a bit irritating sometimes if you frequently record video clips.

A good camera with easy features and great image quality. The zoom is good too with clear vision. A good camera which is not fiddly and easy to use

the camera takes great pics and has movie mode but they don't tell you that it doesn't have sound. besides the sound for movies the camera is a great buy. i would defiantly refer all my friends.
