Editor's Review

The Olympus FE series is known for userfriendliness, though it's also known somewhat for unreliability. The FE-4000 is a simple, straightforward camera intended for casual photographers and budget-minded consumers. It has fairly decent specifications and a stylish appearance, as well.

Not a bad camera for the price (Barbara in NewMex — 05/18/2011)
I must say I really like this little camera. It takes beautiful pictures. No problems here. My daughter even dropped it and it still works great. You can't expect SLR quality when purchasing a point and shoot. Great camera for pictures that are uploaded to facebook or sent in email.

What a joke !! Introducing ... the cross eyed camera ...!! (OMG — 11/09/2010)
OK, so received this camera last Christmas and took a few shots... You know, when you get a new camera and you want to try it on the spot to see what he's got? Well with the Fe 4000, it's innovative because every shot went blurry, out of focus or orange. If you attempt to take a picture of a sitting cat barely moving, you get the feeling that the cat is moving at incredible speed !! It's like a total cross eyed camera loool But anyway, at first i thought that was me not using it properly so it maintains a suspense kind of! And then when you discover that you actually got it right, the joke isn't funny much anymore. But that's not all, the colors are also spoiled (it got out of focus and detects a chair but not a human face!), the trigger button is not well thought so that when you take a picture, you end up moving a bit: which is for this camera like taking a "toy camera" to photograph a Formula 1 at max speed. So to sum it all up, it looks good on a shop shelf but don't be fooled, because if you buy it you will only buy another one in replacement between a week or a month.

Absolute rubbish, how did this ever make it to market? (ramjet — 10/20/2010)
Took it on one holiday - worst shots ever. Camera doesnt focus, seems to choose its own light settings, nearly everything you can think of went wrong in using this camera, except it kept working which is probably a bad thing !! Going OS again and didn't even question buying a new camera. So basically payed good money for a 3 week camera...This is a big piece of rubbish and the proprietary memory is so slooow. Olympus never again!

Worst Camera (Dan — 08/15/2010)
I bought the Olympus FE4000 last November and realised very soon that it was a complete waste of money.Blurry images, out of focus even on a tripod, very slow to react (it takes actually 2-3 seconds to take a picture between the time you press and the shutter opening). Took it back to the shop, apparently the Olympus workshop in France replaced the objective...they gave it back to me after they kept it for two weeks... and surprise,surprise...absolutely no change at all. And very bad service as well. Before, I had a Fujifilm of 5 MP and pictures were way better quality, sharpness, contrast and colour. ON Olympus FE 4000, what you photograph as white, comes out some sort of all the settings, auto and manual. Simply horrible camera. Don`t be fooled by the shiny plastic on top. You might aswell buy yourself a cardboard box and stick some tinfoil on it...same quality. If in doubt, send me an email and I will send you some photos taken with fe 4000...and let you decide for yourself. dapalaghie (at) yahoo dot com

My worst ever Camera (Barry Searle — 07/03/2010)
Whilst on holiday in Spain my 4 year old Olympus U700 gave up. I was lost without a camera so the local Photo shop recommended the FE4000. The results were mega disappointing. The pictures were nothing like as crisp and clear as my old camera. I think my 7 year old granddaughter's 'toy' digital produces better results. How can Olympus produce such rubbish. I have written to them but needless to say they don't want to know. I'm now on the look out for a decent replacement but it won't be Olympus!

disappointed. (Jessica — 06/01/2010)
i received this camera as a present. at first i was amazed with it's exterior. the camera body is sleek and compact, easy to hold and fits into my pocket easily. however it is not how the camera looks that's important, but the quality of the imaging. the pictures are very blurry! i had to retake so many shots because the focus is really bad. the pictures come out red and orange in dark lighting so don't even think about taking pictures in candlelight. the videos are very bad as well, as it turns up darker than reality. all you see is small black dots here and there and it is very blurry and unclear. overall, i would not recommend the fe-4000 to anyone. my friends bought it for $230AUD and it is not worth it's price. you can buy a cheaper canon or sony that can do a better job. in this case, it really is don't judge a book by it's cover. the camera may look good, but does a poor job.

12 Mpixels -- Does not look like it to me (Bill Ligon — 01/31/2010)
It's hard to see a difference in picture quality from this 12 MP camera and my old 3 MP camera. I thought I would be impressed with the difference -- I AM NOT. I don't know if there is such a thing as 12MP.

An Excellent Product That You Must Grab It (Kamalrudin Mohd Taib — 09/11/2009)

easy to use, very straightforward and lots of features which can be done by pushing a few buttons. Even large numbers of people in groups will be easily in focus and properly exposed and always captured sharp, blur-free images on subjects on the move and can create your own productions too..!
