Editor's Review

The Olympus Stylus 210 isn't a flashy, superficial camera, but for users interested in approachable and affordable comfort, it might fit the bill. The FE-210 tries to boil down the complicated aspects of digital photography into their simplest forms, allowing one-button modification of camera settings and features, so novice users can quickly and easily get the hang of operating the camera. The FE-210 also is a great value, with a large 7.1-megapixel sensor and large 2.5-inch display at a reasonable price.

Battery always says empty. (Del Stowe — 12/16/2009)

Battery always says empty. Take a few pictures and camera says battery dead. Bought 2850 MAH and tood two pictures and camera said dead. I am now buying a Canon as I am totally unsatisfied with Olympus

use the right batteries (Doug Lowrey — 05/16/2009)

Re the first review posted here, yes, batteries are a big issue for this camera. Do what Olympus says to do. I did, and they're right. 2100mAh batteries don't work. Non-rechargeables did, but that gets pricey. Spend a little extra money up front and go for the 2450 mAh rechargeable ones. The lower capacity rechargeables let me get just a couple of pictures off before the camera died. With the latter, I can do 40 or more.

It's just that easy.

I like the camera now, but sure hated it before I figured this out.

Worked Great! (Doug Hoderny — 04/15/2009)

This camera is awesome for the price. Olympus made good with the warranty when it wouldn't close the pop out lens, but I dropped it to make that happen. The battery life was incredible compared to my fathers FE-250 or something like that. I only got the low battery signal when the pop out lens was goofing up. Will buy from Olympus again!

piece of garbage (chad — 03/19/2009)

This camera produces poor quality images. The images are grainy and splotchy under nearly all resolutions. It only works with fully charged or brand new batteries and will say the batteries are empty if they are even slightly used. This camera isn't worth the plastic it's made of.

FE-210 and "battery empty" (Bill Wrightman — 01/26/2009)

Camera worked fine until I managed to break the display. Got that replaced under warranty. When it returned, fresh NiMH 2100ma batteries would just give me the "battery empty" message. Saw somewhere that one should update/reload firmware, which Olympus provides (see their site) the tools to do. Did this, and now it works fine again. FWIW.

Poor focus and battery issue (gbn — 11/03/2008)

1. Often blurred
2. Say empty batteries even with fresh 2700 mAh

Not Bad (Joann — 09/08/2008)

The people who say this camera is crap are obviously not using it correctly. Olympus is a great Camera. I'm in college with the major of Graphic Design. So I had to take a photography course and it was mandatory to have a camera. I used this camera in the course and it worked wonders for me. Takes great quality pictures. The only thing I don't like about it is that it runs on the AA batteries which need to constantly be charged. But if you upgrade it to the newer version of it then it's great. Olympus camera's are awesome.

Could be better (Jim Devin — 08/19/2008)

I bought this camera because it is much more compact than my Kodak DX6490. We go to Disneyland a lot and I got tired of having a large camera hanging off my belt or around my neck. I too have had the "empty battery" message several times when using the rechargeable batteries. With 2 Duracell batteries, I have not had the message even once. And they have lasted a long time. Maybe there is a problem with the camera using rechargeable batteries? I would do more "research homework" befre buying another Olympus product though.

Never again (Sue Bellmer — 08/10/2008)

Bought the first FE-210 in March. It crapped out on us within two weeks. Took it back, got another one. This one now works like crap. Goes into sleep mode and won't come out. Get a black screen - can't take pictures. This was my 5th (and last) Olympus camera. Never again. Buy a good camera. I have had better luck with my new Panasonic digital.

worst camera I have every owned! (crystal diepeveen — 07/14/2008)

Can't use the telescope to far or you will get only a black screen. Also, uses alot of batteries!! Worst thing is that I am not getting just a pure white screen after taking a picture. Not worth buying!!

Batteries empty - yeah right! (Stephen Briggs — 03/07/2008)

Takes great photos when its working but...taking photos can be a tad difficult as 'batteries empty' has a tendancy to appear on the LCD screen way too often, always with fully charged batteries, I might add. Something is obviously wrong with the beastie. Took it back on warranty . The Olympus repairer stated he had fitted a new circuit board. Hey presto. Batteries still empty. Way too unpredicatable, this is 2008 after all not the 1950's.

Assault on Batteries (Mark — 01/09/2008)

Bought the FE-210 because it looked like a good price from Fry's but now know why it was on sale. Started having battery problems from the start with batteries seemingly being used up within a day. After some experimentation I found the batteries weren't being used at all. Apparently there is a disconnect somewhere within the battery compartment where the batteries do not make a complete circuit thus sometimes they work and sometimes they don't; mostly the latter. I have since resorted to a more simple camera that has no power problems. I haven't sent this one back, yet, but from some comments here that sounds like a waste of time and money since Olympus is not fixing the problem. My advice is to not buy this problem-ridden piece of crap and, instead, buy a Canon which I've never had a problem with.

Buy yourself a good camera and save your money (Gina Roques — 12/28/2007)

Purchased this camera on impulse, biggest mistake ever made. I keep having to change the batteries very time I use it and since batteries don't come cheap I could have purchased a better quality camera and still saved my money. Live and learn.

FE-210 Battery "mystery"... (Rolf Zenker — 12/07/2007)

Bought this FE-210 from Olympus, under an Upgrade from a 2020Z. From Day One camera had trouble with recognizing fully charged NiMH batteries previously used in the 2020Z: after a few pics, Error message "Battery empty" appeared although the removed batteries still measured more than 1.3V each. Re-inserting the same batteries a few times allowed to take a few more pics. As same problem continued to appear at random, camera was returned to Olympus, for repair under warranty. Upon return and the first two pics, "Battery empty" again: again, both AA NiMH cells still showed 1.30 V!
Comment from Olympus: Use 2500mAh batteries instead the old 1600 or 1800mAh. Returned camera again, requesting replacement instead of repair: Olympus refused to do so - again only suggesting to use 2500mAh NiMH batteries. Bottom line: Due to too many pics lost due to "Empty Battery", I'd NOT buy another Olympus product.

Its worth the money (Sunil — 09/30/2007)

The quality, the the Anti shake reduction all are excellent
But a bit sluggish in performance.
The XD card speed is the main hit on the performance.
Overall its a excellent buy.
