I need to know if there's a way to get the pictures off of the internal memory onto a memory card without using the cord which I lost.

this camera is amazing(: ibought it over a year ago and i use it at LEAST once a week and it is working greatt! i am getting a new battery tomorrow cuz it has shut off a few times in the past week but i know it is just the battery because it has been over a year and the rechargable batterys are not ment to last forever. but i love this camera. i use to to take silly pictures with my friends, but it also on macro setting can take some pretty amazingg pictures too. i am 13 and really getting into photography. im not sure about a pro photographer, but if you are too serious about pictures, this camera will take good ones and it is TOUGH! i have dropped it, several times on concrete, and other ssurfaces, had it in the rain, underwater, had it on a sand dune, and much much more annd it has withstood it all.
so pros:
amazing camera.
very very tough.
waterproof.
takes good pics if you kow how to use it.
not AS expensive as some less durable cameras.
Cons:
it has a SLOWW shutter speed. i have gotten used to it but even on action mode, i have learned to press the button 3 or 4 full seconds before the shot that i want ad it doesnt always work out good.
kind of expensive depending where you buy it.

Try prefocusing. THis is where you press the shutter down half way with your subject in the middle. Recompose and press the shutter the rest of the way. If the image changes, take your finger off, re-prefocus and recompose. Making a habit of this, you'll hardly notice you're doing it and you'll cut that shutter delay by as much as 80%

If your card is a high capacity card and your reader doesn't support SDHC cards, that may be the issue.

Mine has lasted a month - and has died following use in a swimming pool to a depth of no more than 1.8m - when the card / battery compartment was opened it had water in it.
Will Olympus repair it under warranty?

Get your credit card company involved and tell them you feel you've been sold a lemon and want to charge it back. Olympus will notice.

my camera stopped working after taking it underwater in St. Maartin. Has anyone else had this problem and what can be done? It will not turn on at all.

Although it's rated to 10 feet, that's under controlled conditions. I wouldn't have taken it any deeper than just under the surface, especially in salt water (which is kryptonite to electronics). What can be done? Probably nothing. If salt water got inside, it's a paperweight. But you may want to send it in for a repair estimate.

What does the extra $100 buy you? I am looking for a camera that is durable. In the past year, I have lenses jam due to being dropped, etc.

Well the 550WP can take up to 10 feet pressure underwater, meaning that if you like to snorkle, the 500WP could be a good option.

Camera won't turn on, card access lamp won't turn off. What's wrong? (turnercm191 — 07/11/2009)
I bought this camera about a month ago for a trip and about two weeks ago it stopped working. I took the memory card out to upload photos and the battery out to charge and when I put them back in the camera wouldn't turn on but the card access lamp turned on and remained on until I took the battery out. Help please! I am in Australia and have no camera until I solve this problem.

Try resetting the camera. Or take the battery out overnight and then put it back in. Start w/out the card. If you can, reformat the card using a card reader and your computer. I'd use a card recovery utility like F Recovery to do it. Then, try to put it back in and see if it happens. Woudl'nt hurt if you downloaded and installed any firmware updates as well.

won't turn off

i've been using the camera for a month now.earlier this after, all was good, i've took underwater shots and everything was going fine. except that when i tried to turn it off, i won't turn off but the red light was on. it took me more minutes before i decided to open the battery case and take off the battery.
now, everytime i try to put on the battery, it turns itself on by itself and i can't turn it off. help.
