Hey! You should know that Panasonic has released a newer version of this product: the Panasonic Lumix S3.
Panasonic Lumix F3
Editor's Review
The S3 has replaced the F3. Here's what we had to say about the F3 when it was released in early 2010:
The F3 is Panasonic's new entry-level model for 2010. It features a 12.1 megapixel sensor, 4x optical zoom, 2.7-inch LCD screen, 720p HD video at 30 frames per second, and is compatible with the new super-high-capacity SDXC memory card standard. For $130 (did we mention HD video?), this is a solid deal.
Specifications
- 12.1 megapixels
- 4x optical zoom
- 28mm wide-angle lens
- 2.7-inch LCD screen
- 720p HD video mode
- Captures to SD/SDHC/SDXC
- Lithium ion battery
- Release Date: Feb 28, 2010

Out of that group, it's a tossup between the FH1 and W350 for us. We're big fans of the FH20 -- solid image quality and quick performance, and we bet that the FH1 is similar. But, the W350 is a lot of fun to use.

My son just bought this camera for me for Christmas! He got it for $79.99 at Big Lots in Spokane, WA. What a great deal!! He takes after his deal seeking mother!

Cool. Make sure it has a full warranty though. Sometimes these great deals are for "gray market" merchandise which usually means if it breaks you have to send it to the country of manufacture for repair - if it's honored at all. But still, even if it lasts only a year, that's a pretty good deal.

Great Deal? (Kevin Cates — 12/01/2010)
Just found this camera at Big Lots for $79.99. Probably would have passed on it had it not been for the info here. Thanks

What about shutter lag, focusing speed & quality in high ISO from this camera?

Well, it's a $99 camera, so don't expect anything particularly great. We haven't tested it, but if I had to guess, shutter lag probably won't be a problem -- Panasonic cameras seem to be fast in that regard -- though I'd imagine that focusing would be mediocre at best, and quality suffers greatly at ISO 400 and higher.

For 99 dollars this camera is well worth the money.

FH20 vs F3?? (Mark — 08/09/2010)
Amazon has this for $99. For another $40 I can get the FH20. Both of these have HD video and it looks the same spec wise; besided the 8x zoom of the FH20 what will I notice that is so much better than the F3? I think for $99 this would be a steal w/ the HD video. I'm not a pro or a hobbist photo guy; just pics of my kids, etc and the HD 2 minute video here and there. Thanks,.
I was also looking at the Kodak 950, Samsung TL110, FH1/FH3/FP1/FP3.

Yeah they're largely the same aside from that zoom lens.

Does this camera have zoom capability in movie mode?

It doesn't look like it according to the specs. The problem is that when a point and shoot zooms, the mic will pick up the motor noise as it moves in and out. So they opt to feeze the zoom during recording.

great starter camera
(Joe Jones — 07/23/2010)
this is a very easy to use p&s camera with good quality pics. so far Ive had no issues with the performance of this camera, and the camera is very solid feeling too. Im not a professional in any way, just a typical consumer. and for me this is the best little camera Ive used to date. Ive used some other brands including kodak, fujifilm and nikon of similar value and this Panasonic has them beat imho. the hd video looks good to me and with a high speed 8gb card you can take lots of it. I also like the fact that it has an on/off switch instead of a button because the buttons can be a hassle sometimes. battery life is ok, as long as you don't have it on standby for most of the day, it will last long enough for an event. The battery does charge fairly quick which is a plus.
