hey hi everybody for whoever read this, i got 1 of this jst digital camera dsc-812 gray color it looks nice but i don't know about the cam i'm trying to find some info but there is no much so if someone know some about it please you can hit me up w a note i'm from ny i will apreciate if you can help me thnanks.

I bought one that looks exactly like it as a 6megapixel camera by Fujida in Hong Kong about a year and a half ago. I've had intermittent issues with the SD interface (none prevented using the camera, just previewing the pictures already taken), and the video could use a few more frames per second, but other than that it's worked fine. It's still a great deal so far (~$380 US including extra battery and 1GB SD card) and I still get compliments on it (Red anodized cover) almost everywhere I take it.



I looked up the JST name because I saw some in electronics stores in NYC when I was there last weekend.

okay, i just bought one of these and now am thinking i too got the royal rip-off. the guy in the store told me there was a warranty, but i can't find a warranty card. what's the dilly?

i also bought the dsc-812 digital camera in new tork, it takes great pictures and i like it but i accidently broke the cd software and cannot find another anywhere can anyone helpme with that. email me at alldaytruckin@aol.com

My deepest sympathies to Debbie, Ann and others who got ripped off by the camera store in Times Square Broadway!! Last night, we were at that store too....and would have almost got ripped off as well....the aggressive salesman there was offering it for $1500 with 2 1 GB SD Card free!! Thankfully, my better senses prevailed...and I somehow excused myself out of the store...and probably would not have managed it, if the store was not closing...it was 11pm. I would say this is sad...since there are no authorities who can control and stop this menace. I doubt if there will be any, as US prides itself in stating that its a FREE country believing in free capitalist economy....so every scoundrel, thief, mugger abound....BUT more so, there are what I can say are Smooth Operators like the Banks, Credit Card Cos, Travel Sites, Hotels who also rip you off....only that, they make you take your money out of your pocket and give it to them....in perfect legal umbrella and with management completely hidden thru call centers and front line staff who cant do much about it, once you are ripped off. SO BEWARE ALL who TRAVEL in THE US OF A !!

Hi :) everybody I bough a digital camera at NYC, the digital camera 12 Megapixels is a JST DSC-812 and so far it has worked fine; however I am wondering whether it was worth it. I pay $250 for the camera then $29 for a 2.0 GB memory card, a total of $279. Then i told the salesman that the camera was too expensive!!! he only gave me a leather protection component for the camera for free, expressing that $279 was the final price. I still think that the camera with the 2.0 GB was too expensive!!!!! I wonder how much this camera is worth in other stores... I'm searching through the internet, but there is no information about it. If anybody paided more or less than that, please let me know.... my email address is devigemr@yahoo.com

Why don't we all write a letter to Mayor of New York telling of our disgust that this camera store on Broadway is rippping us off and see if we get a response. I have tried calling the store but each time left hanging and then told you need to talk to ***** and he is not in today.

To all of you that got ripped off at Broadway in N.Y. I was relentless in calling sending letters finally they exchanged the useless JST camera for a cheaper Olympus camera but at least it takes pictures at night. The only reason they did was a friend was in NY and made a stink in the store. I wish there was some way to warn others from shopping there! Maybe a letter to the mayor is a good idea or we could start a petition!

Who finally exchanged it for you? We have been calling and faxing and still getting the run around, I know hard to believe!

I filed a dispute with our credit card company but they gave no assurances.

It was interesting to see that they only have 1 complaint in the last 12 months to the BBB.

I too was ripped off, but it was my own fault! I did not recognize the brand name of the camera, I thought the salesgirl was too pushy, yet I still bought the damn camera, hoping I was getting a "real bargain" I only paid $400 but that was about $375 more than the stupid thing is worth. Like we are warned constantly BUYER BEWARE!, and I really wasn't. So, I will chalk it up to experience, and you can bet it won't happen again. I do intend to notify the BBB in NYC, but I am sure nothing will come of it, as I believe that the BBB is also a big scam otherwise this master of rip off would have been closed long ago as I am sure there are many many people that have been scammed just like we were.

How amazing! I was looking for imformation on my recently bought DSC 812 (from Broadway Cameras NYC) when I came across this web site. The problem with mine is that as soon as there is no daylight there is no image! I also couldn't download the photos that I took in New York and when I put the memory card back in the camera all the images had been deleted.

My partner bought a laptop from the same store and has an unexplained debit for over $300 on his bank statement.

I'm not sure where we go from here but as so many of us have been ripped off ,there must be something we can do.

Hi, just stumbled across this message board, after looking for info on DVC512! I went into the store with the sole intention of buying some speakers! Instead bought the 512, wide angle lense, 2 gig card for $1000, what a muppet!!!!! The first one I bought froze, returned to the store, they replaced it, the second one also stopped working after about an hour, spoke to the hotel manager re the laws in the USA. Armed with this info, I went back a third time, again they replaced it, (is there anyone reading this thinking I am an idiot?!!) However, used it for the remainder of my stay and it worked fine. Even at home after a month of regular use, it's still great and get loads of comments about it. Even so, please be aware, they must be on commission and see us mugs coming!! Still get my speakers!!

Although I don't know exactly the model number but it does sound like the one everyone in this blog is talking about....JST camera. It is being offered on QVC and QVC.com for $234.96. A co-worker bought this and was showing it to me...it looks great and I was thinking of getting one myself...but all the negative feedback from all of you convinced me to look elsewhere. Although I feel your pain and agony...please know you have saved at least one person from spending hard earned money on crap.

Oh well, another mug was born this week. I cannot believe I was drawn into this ring of fire. My purchase of a JST 712 was completed after stepping into 51st Computers & Electronics 780 7th Avenue N.Y. The sales guy was really friendly, welcoming, personable and the ultimate conman who subsequently turned out to be a complete bastard!!



My tale follows the similar pattern to that of all the other threads, in that, I, for some reason purchased an inferior quality non branded product and SD cards for over 1300 dollars, this being a special offer to me because he liked me so much, incidentally he reduced the price from 2400 dollars obviously a very highly inflated price.



Having realised fairly quickly after purchasing, and then looking closer at the unit, it was clear I had been conned!.... I took advantage of going online in my hotel, and in doing so found this site, and my decision to take action immediately was based on the facts displayed in these threads.



I took the camcorder and SD cards back and requested a refund, but was told that refunds would not be given, only exchanges were possible. Bearing this in mind I went for the damage limitation option, and agreed to exchange the unit and cards for two branded items, both 2007 models. These, as with every other product in the shop were hugely overpriced and I had to negotiate carefully with them whilst liasing with a friend who had Internet access in England, this action was carried out in an attempt to recover my potential losses. Even though I paid over the top for both items, the alternative was to potentially lose everything!



I can only conclude by saying that nobody should venture anywhere near these outlets, if you do, be prepared to be lied to and cheated. Don't ask advice because they will tell you absolutely anything to get a sale, infact they will tell you the the inferior product which has a bigger profit for them, is far better than the superior product just so they can make the con even better for themselves. Better still don't even look in their windows, walk straight by..



This company and few others in New York are taking full advantage of tourists and preying on their vulnerability and should be reported, as I shall be doing in the very near future with the NYC BBB.

I bought a JST dsc-812 on broadway at new york the the price on the box was 1200$ and i bought it for 80$ after 2hours of dealing! Its the worst camera I ever bought, can only take good picture if the light is perfect and really nothing moving. The batterie is already dead after 4month and they dont sold-it nowhere. The only good thing about this camera is the video in divx, you can make a movie of almost 2h on a 1gig sd card the quality is not so bad. But never pay more than 100$ for a cheap camera like this!

I am sorry to say that I too was conned on Broadway, near Times Square, between 53rd & 54th street. Millennium Cameras. The salesman charmed me for 30 minutes and reduced the price from $1200 to $600. I really should have known better and listened to my husband! I only wanted a digital camera but came out with the 12 megapixel JST camcorder. I immediately realised it was no good but was told no refunds. Same scenario as above, got an Olympus in exchange. Thankfully it is a good camera but the deal cost me $700 (£360), I could get the camera here in the UK for £160. The other part of the con was that when I told the shop on my third return visit that another shop one block down was selling the Olympus for $149 ($500 less!) they sent their boy with us to check and would you believe it as soon as we got there the salesman there had 'just sold' the last one and swore it was $800 and we had been dreaming. WARNING TO ANYONE DO NOT BUY ANYTHING FROM THE CAMERA SHOPS ON BROADWAY AND TIMES SQUARE, THEY ARE CON MEN!!

We found this web site just hours after our purchase of a JST 712. We tried to get our money back after reading the unfavourable reviews but could not even get an exchange. All the staff in the shop had shift changed by the time we returned 2 hours later so we couldn't even speak to the smug salesman who served us. We were told JCT was part of JVC and the product was fully warranted, but like others when we got the product home there was no warranty, and JVC has no connection whatsoever to JST. We even called the Police who also tried to get a refund on our behalf, but to no avail. The Police Officer told us they deal with these clowns ripping tourists off along Broadway on a daily basis and they are unable to do anything about it. Just for the record we shopped in BROADWAY CAMERAS at 1550 BROADWAY NY. If anyone needs help or support in trying to get some sort of resolution in stopping this apparent legalised extorsion, then count me in.........and I thought NY was supposed to have been cleaned up, it appears a trail of scum has been missed along Broadway.

Thanks Jeff, have gone directly to www.newyork.bbb.org website and complained online. Hopefully everyone else will follow and we can get some action. Come on everyone get onto the NYC BBB site, its very easy to complete and get your complaints heard by someone who may actually get a result.

My friend recently bought a 712 camera from a store on broadway, not sure which store, but he paid around $850. I looked at the camera, it is a piece of plastic junk. It has no warranty card, no website for support,no place of manufacture, no contact address, very little instructions for operation and really, no special features at all! The most expensive part of the camera was the box and the 1 gb sd card. I feel sorry for the guy, he feels really ripped off (even though most of this was his fault for not checking it out thoroughly). Has anyone had any success in returning the camera with receipt for a refund or is he stuck with the (white elephant) camera??

unfortunately you have been ripped off, just like the rest of us, if you are in the place that you bought the camera go back in and create a noise and copy these notes and take them with you I was fortunate and nagged the CC company and the refunded half of my payment = £300. try thr financvialombudsman if you are uk based tho,

fortunately for me , i got JST over the weekend and paid by cheque to the dealer and the dealer is yet to get the pay from my bank. you know what i am going to do first thing tomorrow, i am going to either call up the cheque or freeze my account.

Forget NYBBB, went down that route and they have as much power as if you'd sent your own mum back to the store on your behalf to get a refund. Complete waste of time, but they were very polite and nice people if that's any consolation................... NYC = Nab Your Cash!

Hey everyone, it's sad to know that that this is happening, we go on vacation to visit one of the greatest city's in the world and it turns out we get more than we bargain for. I too bought a JST camera at the NY Broadway camera store. Fortunately I bought the camera realizing that it was a cheap camera and I needed to take pictures from my NY vacation. The camera I took on vacation fell at the M&M store and broke, so I decided to purchase this cheap camera. My issue is that I can't download my pictures to my PC because I lost the cable that lets me download from my camera to my PC. Apparently I cant find the site on the web in order to purchase the cable, so I'm stuck with a cheap camera and now I can download my pictures because I can't find the cable. Good luck to everyone.

I've joined the club. Bought my JST today. I'm charging the battery like hell, but it doesn't work. To bad my flight is tomorrow early in the morning. So I can't get back. Luckily I was hesitant with this aggressive salesman at Times Square. This rip-off costed me only $110 (including the 2gb card). They're a bunch of jerks. I am going to throw this junk away. It is a waste of the space in my suitcase. And I like tho forget this sooner than later.

Me too - purchased JST DVC-512 from Lafnac Digital Computers 42nd Street - completely taken in - on short city break having good time did not choose carefully as normal - no instructions and cannot download onto laptop, I am so cross. Thought I would find instructions on web, found thyis site instead.

I am living in in the caribbean and i got one of this JST DSC 812 camera as a gift from my friend in NY. This camera is like TRASH. This is the worst camera i have ever behold in my life. It is only fit for the dumpster. Doesn't worth a dime.

I and my friend bought a JST DVC-973 digital camera from Bray something or other at 1550 Broadway, NY, NY in April this year for Canadian dollar 432.42, I should have know when the guy was telling me it was regualar 2000.00 US$ that it was a piece of junk. It will take decent pictures when ever you can get it to work as I have to constantly take the battery out of it and in the booklet there is no web site or Mfg name or any toll free number, I will be going back to New York very soon and I plan to pay them a visit and take my lawyer with me. This sort of rip off is bad for tourism and the Mayor of New York should be informed as soon as I can get a message to him. Is anyone else out there having an issue with anything from that same shop.
