Hey! You should know that Panasonic has released a newer version of this product: the Panasonic Lumix FP3.
Panasonic Lumix FX100
Editor's Review
Old product. Here's what we had to say when it was released in August 2007:
Panasonic comes out swinging with the 12-megapixel FX100, a bold ultracompact that also features a useful wide-angle lens. Take advantage of that extra wide-scope by shooting in 16:9 widescreen mode. You'll be capturing tremendouslt detailed images with that big CCD; the FX100 lends itself to excellent panoramic enlargements and prints.

Panasonic Lumix FX100 Comments & Questions (write your own!)
The argument is essentially this: CCD chips on point and shoot cameras a smaller and as such, fitting in more pixels causes them to lose light sensivity. Sure, there’s more data on the chip, but the chip can’t absorb the light data and what it ends up with is a picture that has more noise than image quality. In addition, the more megapixels a camera has, the larger the lens it needs to provide the clarity it deserves and prevent diffraction due to a loss of detail with smaller apertures. But since we’re talking portable point and shoots here, those large lenses simply aren’t being made.
Finally, with larger mega pixels comes longer saving time due to their requires huge storage capacity, or more compression if not storing images in RAW format. The result is a noisier image and a dissatisfied camera user who thirsts for high quality and speed but fell into the trap of "more must mean better."
In the end, relying on a smaller MP that can balance all these needs may indeed be a better answer.

However, there is an argument that cameras with larger chips, like the Canon G9 ( digitalcamera-hq.com/digita... ) make up for that and put those 12MP to better use than smaller chipped point and shoots. But there's also the Canon SD ( digitalcamera-hq.com/digita... ) line, which yields some impressive results and are quite popular.
I keep looking and reading and taking good care to read all reviews and have now been very interested in a new Olympus SR-57OUZ 10MP 20X. I haver searched the internet and found the price range to go from about $287 - $550 depending on the online store. There I also read the reviews because I have had bad experiences with some stores that have lousy customer service. SO . . . I still need to take a look at the Canon XSI, but before I do what is your humble opinion on this camera - the Olympus I have found - the newest Olympus to hit the market I believe. The reviews have been very good from professional photographers to the consumer reviews. It has the range I want and most everything else I am looking for in a camera without getting into a camera with different lenses that is more cumbersome to carry and set up. Love to hear feedback! I want to buy this camera - be it the Canon or Olympus . . . soon. OPINIONS????
Charging for this camera should take around 3 hours ( kodak.com/global/en/service... ). The time does not change if you use the USB or the AC adapter. It will vary based on battery age though. Make sure it is fully charged (both lights on the charger will be on) before using the battery. I would also recommend using the battery until it wears completely down before charging. This will ensure the longest battery life possible. Good luck and happy shooting.

I am intending to buy this Kodak V1253 camera for party functions and for crisp quality shots. Is the right camera to go for?...
Are there any flaws that this camera might have that needs to be addressed?...e.g problem with battery life, lacking in anti-shake??..
thanks.
I've heard about a lot of quality issues with Kodaks lately (cameras locking up, features not working correctly, etc.). You may want to try a different brand. While this camera does receive decent ratings (qualifying it for an overall "B"), you can also look at the Panasonice FX100 ( digitalcamera-hq.com/digita... ) for similar features and only about $50 more. Good luck.

The Lumix FX100 can indeed TAKE HD pictures since it has the required number of megapixels. However, as you suspected, its output cable is USB only and NOT USB 2.0 either. So, despite having a lot of data to transfer, Panasonic basically assumes you will remove the flash memory and insert it directly into your computer. The same USB outlet is used for the A/V output as well leaving me curious as to how you could play the pics on your HDTV other than through your computer somehow. Perhaps a call to the Panasonic tech rep might help, but I doubt you are going to be able to match the W200 trick.

and thank you for answering
And don't let the 12MP of the P5100 (and to be fair, the FX100) fool you. While that's a great level of megapixel, you won't see any difference over an 8MP camera in 95% of your pictures since those will be mostlly snapshots. That other 5% - being enlargements - still won't really see the extra MP assert itself until the enlargements reach 8x10 or larger. And maybe even above 11x14.
So while 12MP packs alot of punch, for most of your pictures, it's kinda like driving a Ferrari on the freeway in SoCal. Sure, you can reach 220mph, but with a 65mph speed limit and constant rush hour traffic, it isn't too likely you'll enjoy it. So why pay for it?
So jump right in and start your journey into the wonderful world of SLR photography. You'll never look back.

Great little camera. I like the Stabilization features, lens, 12 megapixils and the ease of use. The ease that the zoom operates with makes it almost foolproof. This is about the 20th camera that I've owned. I've owned 5 sony(cameras), 1 sharp, 1 panasonic, 2 olympus and a few cheep ones (digital). This panasonic is very easy to use, stable (stabilization feature is great) and the zoom is flawless-it is very-2 settings- stable, which is ususlly a problem with low light and or high zoom-but this stabilization feature enables you to take clear, flawless pictures. I would have liked a gasket system (like the olympus), to keep out rain and water, but otherwise I haven't found any problems. Worth the $375.00+ it cost. Outside of a Nikon, Hasablad, Leica, contax $2500.00+ SLR I think it does a really good job.
