Pentax Optio E10 Comments & Questions (write your own!)
What I did was kept turning the camera on and off about 50 or 60 times, I went thru a couple sets of batteries and all of a sudden the thing started working properly, I believed that doing this would clean or clear away the lens obstruction, this camera now works like a charm turning on & off.
Hope it works for you.

One thing you don't want to do is force the issue. Send it in for a repair estimate. But understand that the average cost of a camera repair is around $180. As such, it may cost more to repair than it is really worth. The rule of thumb is that if the estimate for repair is north of 50% what you paid for it, you're better off taking that money and buying a newer and upgraded model.
I have opened the unit to see the soldered small battery used for Date and time. I measure 2.6 V on the battery I believe it should be closer to 3V.
Could this battery be the problem? . Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated
The black screen is not caused by batteries, not even the small button battery.
If you Google for " black screen on digital camera ", you will see a lot of examples, covering many makes and models.
The only cure is to send it back to Pentax for repair, and if the cost is too much, you are better off buying a new camera.
However, if you want to read more about it here are some links :
1. Canon S2is
digitalcamera-hq.com/digita... Kodak L443
digitalcamera-hq.com/digita... Canon 610
forums.cnet.com/5208-7593_1...
It is possible that there might be one that is similar to your problem, but it's not worth looking for it in the 1,690,000 sites.
Users only need to know that black screen is caused by faulty LCD or jammed shutter and only Pentax can solve the problem because Pentax knows how to source for the spare parts.
As eBay sells the new camera for only $60 and used ones for below $30, see <a href="catalog.ebay.com/Pentax-Opt... this site </a>,
I would think twice before sending it for repair.
Thanks so much!
In Playback mode, press Menu and scroll down to Playback 2.
Scroll down again and select Copy. It will copy the pictures from internal memory to SD card.
2. USB cable for E10 consists of a standard A at one end and a mini B at the other. You can copy the picture from <a href="cgi.ebay.com.my/USB-Cable-f... this site </a> and bring it to any camera accessory shop. The shop keeper will be able to find one for you because it is a pretty standard cable for a lot of cameras.
I will try to do what you recommend. Although, I'm pretty dumb when it comes to this camera, and may need more assistance...tee hee

Can this issue be due to the fact that the internal button battery (used to keep the date etc.) is dead? This internal batteri rechaargesw when you use your camera right? Maybe I kept my camera stored for too long and this internal battery discharged completely?
Any suggestions?
Your loss of power in NiMH batteries is most probably due to loss of capacity over the last 2 years. This lost of capacity takes place each time the battery is fully discharged. see <a href="greenbatteries.com/nibafa.h... FAQ's on NiMH </a>
I suggest you switch over to low discharge batteries like eneloop made by Sanyo or NEXcell as advertised <a href="logicbattery.com/batteries.... here </a>
Sounds to me, from this, that the DATE-TIME failed in two years. That is much too fast. The DATE-TIME batteries in televisions and cameras typically last 10 years and more. The E10 likely puts too much drain on this battery.
When the DATE-TIME battery weakens, the start-up software and self-diagnostic routines can also fail. I've seen the audio system fail on one Daewoo 27" television set when its DATE-TIME battery failed. Replacing that DATE-TIME battery fixed the audio instantly. I also had the impression that the picture looked better, too.
The manufacturers want to provide Instant On capabilities. For a camera that means loading the batteries just a bit. If the design loads the DATE-TIME battery, too, then you are going to get trouble. Not immediately. Maybe 6 months to a year out -- down the road from leaving the factory. Pentax Q/A testing would never catch this problem. (Same for a bad batch of DATE-TIME batteries.) -- so, yeah... replace the DATE-TIME battery.
E10 was marketed as one of the cheapest 6 megapixel camera during it's time. I bought one for the reason and used it for some years before giving it away.
I found it very handy, don't give me problems, not even with the batteries if you charge it daily. It does not have ' that many problems' like the OP mention. In fact many other compact P&S were worse off, with <a href="imaging-resource.com/NEWS/1... CCD failures </a> affecting so many makes and <a href="stevesforums.com/forums/vie... </a>.
Market competition for cameras have shifted grounds to high megapixels CCDs, image stabilization and what have you, there is no point going back to E10 and trying to iron out the battery problem, if any, and for <a href="shopping.yahoo.com/p:Pentax... a $75/= camera </a> there is no point expecting wonders.
It is too hasty to say " ..... its the last one I'll ever own ", because of a $75 camera, while there are plenty of choices in the stable that win the hearts of Pentax fans. Pentax dSLRs are very good if you ever handle one, while <a href="zappos.com/n/es/d/722692714... some models on this page</a> probably wows a lot of people.
With so much pressure, and so much improvements made over the years, I must say Pentax R&D staff really do their job well to come out with quite a few quality dSLRs and many more compact P&S to keep the company afloat in the highly competitive market, while old favourites like Yashica, Minolta and Contax have call it a day.
help?
Go to <a href="arcksoft.com/"> this site </a> and you will find the software you need to recover the pictures.
Alternatively you can also try the photo recovery software at <a href="photosrecovery.com/"> this site </a>.
The procedure is quite simple.: take your memory card out of the camera, insert it into a card reader and plug the reader to the USB port of the computer.
The software, preinstalled in the computer, will identify all the pictures in the card and allow you to copy them to a folder in the computer.
But understand that the average cost of a camera repair is around $180. As such, it may cost more to repair than it is really worth. The rule of thumb is that if the estimate for repair is north of 50% what you paid for it, you're better off taking that money and buying a newer and upgraded model.
Latest model, any brand , will have it in front of the casing, sometimes behind a cover that opens with a single press.
Last few years' model will have it at the back of the casing.
Very old model may not have it at all and you got to get a USB card to slot into one of the free slots on the mother board.
High speed USB refers to USB 2 and it is faster although physically, USB2 port and USB 1 port look alike. It is part of the architecture of the motherboard and you either have USB 1 or USB 2 built- in but not both.
It does not matter really if you plug your cable to USB 1. It's a bit slower, but tolerable unless you are in a hurry.
Just set the camera to ' PC 'and ...... happy downloading.
I highly recommend buying a card reader instead. They are about 15 dollars, available almost anywhere (Walmart and Target are great places for them) and they hold your memory card and plug into your USB slot. No having to deal with drivers, and saves wear and tear on your camera.
It is not that E10 is not compatible with XP, rather it is XP that don't need a driver to recognise E10.
What you need to do is after connecting the camera to the computer, turn it on , go to the menu and select PC.
Thats about all you do to get XP to recogize the camera and let you download the pictures.
Normally, you would also connect the camera to an external power supply because downloading may take sometime and needs a lot of battery power.
That is where a card reader works better in tranfering pictures instead of using the camera itself.
If your camera is out of warranty, or if Pentax refuses to repair it for free, the one thing you can try is to gently, and I do mean GENTLY push against the lens with the PALM of your hand as you turn it on, it may cause it to depress back into the camera. If that doesn't work, and you can't reset it or turn it on/off several times, then you may have to send it in for a repair estimate anyway.
But understand that the average cost of a camera repair is around $180. As such, it may cost more to repair than it is really worth. The rule of thumb is that if the estimate for repair is north of 50% what you paid for it, you're better off taking that money and buying a newer and upgraded model.
You are probably talking about the button battery that maintains the memory for the date and time.
If that's it, then there is one, tiny little fellow, soldered to the circuit board and lying just beneath the zoom buttons.
You need to open the plastic cover of the camera to see it.
It is a delicate process because the two terminals are about 1mm apart.
I would get some experienced guy to do it if you are not familiar with the job.
As mentioned, the specs say that the camera does not playback sound.
Connect the camera to the TV with the mini B cable and you will be able to watch the video with sound, playback by the camera. ( the PC/AV terminal is on the side of the camera. )
To watch the video on computer, you need the mini B to USB cable which costs $0.95 each. see iofast.com/index.php/cPath/... may also copy the video clips to the computer using a card reader.
In both cases, your computer needs a media player to play the video with sound.
The camera plays back everything you recorded.
You can't listen to the sound because the camera does not have a speaker, just like many MP3 players.
Try to get one of the the cables, as I have mentioned in my last reply, and you should be able to listen to the recorded sound on the TV, or computer if you so prefer.
If you choose to copy the files to the computer with a card reader, you will need Windows Media Player or the like to watch the videos and listen to the sound at the same time.
We will help you along if there are any more problems.
Just found in eBay that cables for E10 sells for $1 a piece.
If you are interested, take a look at <a href="photography.shop.ebay.com/?... site</a>
In either case, you need to install the sound software before it will play any sound.
On top of that, you will need a suitable media player that plays both the video as well as the sound.
If you have the mind, you may also want to download and install any firmware updates so that the camera is up to date. But that shouldn't be an issue for the audio settings.
Also, have you tried downloading the drivers or player from www.divx.com? The camera records in divx, so if you're trying to play back the video with a convention player without the divx codec, you'll run into audio issues.
This would eliminate all problems associated with the camera to PC connection.
The sentence ' the computer can no longer download pictures from the camera ' probably means you have done it before and now it does not work.
Well, there are several reasons to it and, as stated above, using a card reader to load pictures to the PC is still the best way.
There is no way to manually edit the numbers, you can only reset and start over. Good luck.
Andrew
I find one different way to continuet my numbers of pic.
If I put last pic camera continue numbers from she.
Emil
If that works for you, then go for it. Thanks for the update on your solution.

If you search the net, Direct X and Quicktime can be downloaded free of charge, while ACDSee photo editor will cost you <a href="store.acdsee.com/store/acd/... $49.99 </a>
You really don't need the Win98 driver unless you are stuck with it. If that is the case, the Pentax self support lets you download the driver.
The only advantage of S-SW47 is the free copy of ACDSee which view and edit the photos.
However, there are many free photo viewers that you can download from the net, and you need not stick to ACDSee if you are not prepared to fork out $49.99.
Some of the popular ones are Irfanview, Picasa 2 or even ALSee which can be dowloaded at <a href="giveawayoftheday.com/freewa... this site </a>
To sum it up, you don't miss the S-SW47 if you don't have it, unless the online Product Registration is what you are most concerned about.
Using new, energizer rechargeables,...fresh off the charger.
Bought it new, used it a few times, did not drop it.
Or even the batteries you're using - even though fresh - could be under powered. And, even though you think you've put in fresh batteries, underpowered batteries are just as bad. At the very least, make sure you are using Alkalines. Even better, batteries with a higher mAh - like around 2500mAh would satisfy the higher power requirements of your camera.
But then again, you don't need to look too far to get the widespread belief that this camera is just a nightmare design. It's in the bottom 3% in EVERY category.
Also, were these batteries bought in bulk? Often, when you purchase batteries in bulk, it isn't uncommon that some or many of them are near dead or worse. Batteries bought in bulk tend to have a long turnover and such, can lose much of their battery power before they are used. And many batteries such as AAs are general purpose batteries and are not designed for the high energy use of digital cameras and the flashes they trigger. As such, I recommend using high energy batteries designed for digital photography. Varta is a good brand. They are usually sold in camera shops, are long lasting (because they are sold in small quantities) put out alot of energy.
This camera does not have a viewfinder. The LCD is the only means to compose, and view, the pictures.
To enjoy taking pictures with this camera, you need to buy rechargeable batteries that retain charges longer than ordinary Ni MH, such as ' Eneloop ' battery made by Sanyo or ' Recyko ' battery made by GP. There could be similar products of other makes.
This camera does not have ' many problems '. Most, if not all, of the feedbacks are on battery consumption. If you can solve this issue, by using Eneloop or Recyko, you will have no reason to throw it away, unless you wish to upgrade.
You got a point, and let everybody, novice or bargain hunter alike, to take note before deciding to buy.
If you have bought E10, well, there is no way out because the camera is not equip with a view finder.
Examples can be found in makes like Sony, Nikon, Kodak, Panasonic, Fuji and Casio. Even Leica has one in D-Lux3, so do Canon in it's SD870is.
This probably means LCD's need of battery power has been overcome, one way or another, and users can now enjoy composing pictures in a bigger and better screen than that offered by the viewfinder.
Having a view finder is a plus, but it does not necessarily mean that without one, user will have battery problem.
E10 probably has more than one way of ' chewing up batteries'. So if you have an E10, just remember to use eneloop or recyko rechargeable.
If you have similar or different experience, you may add to the record.
In your message, do indicate the make of camera you use, the ISO settings, auto or manual, and any other information that will help the novice and the bargain hunter to make a decision.
This sounds like a possible wiring issue within the camera. Depending on your purchase date, you may still have warranty coverage on this camera. I would contact Pentax customer service ( pentaximaging.com/customer_... ) to check your options. Good luck.

Could this be the internal batter for the date and time causing this problem? The camera worked before just started functioning like this.
Everything else about the camera works, I can still take pictures, and on the bottom left of my lcd screen i can see ...but on the top right of the screen its black and has green smudges. you can tell where the screen is cracked from the inside. My question is..is there any way of fixing this by myself?
If not, how much would it run to send it in to get it fixed? (Minimun price)
AFFORDABLE CAMERA REPAIR AND CRACKED LCD SCREEN REPLACEMENT
Try darntoothysam.com/servlet/S... again, bukit!)
Try this :
a. install PC Driver from the Software Disk S-SW47 to the computer.
b. turn camera on, set to PC camera
c. connect camera to computer via a USB cable.
d. wait for computer to complete installing the camera
2. goto Start > Programs > Accesories > Communications > Netmeeting > Video
3. turn video off and your camera will show the picture it captures on the screen.
As a webcam, the camera needs a lot of battery power.
Forget about alkaline batteries & rechargeable batteries.
For this purpose, only AC adaptor can meet the power requirement.
As an older camera, Pentax may not be supporting it anymore on the newer systems like Vista. I would check their website, and then call Pentax if you can't find the patch.
The Driver would be from the software CD that came with your Pentax. If you don't have the CD, you might also be able to just E-mail Pentax for that as well.
Pentax has moved E10 to the archive indicating there will be no updating of E10 firmware.
What can be done in your case is to copy the photos in the internal memory to an SD card.
For Vista to read the SD card, you need to buy a card reader. Insert the SD card to the card reader and plug the latter to the USB port.
Vista will recognize the reader and let you copy the photos to the computer.
I'm pretty sure no such product has been made for the E10. Compact and subcompact cameras rarely get that kind of treatment, particularly ones equipped with optical viewfinders. Anyway, my extended search for such a thing turned up nothing but screen protectors, which aren't what you want.
Sorry!
You need an SD card to enable you to take more pictures because the internal memory is only about 10 meg which, as you have found out, takes only 3 large size photos.
To set the camera to record in smaller file size, set mode dial to ' P ' and turn camera on.
Press ' Menu ' button and in Menu 1, select ' Recording Pixels '. Press ' OK ' button.
You have an option of setting file size to 6M, 4M, 2M and 640K. Make your selection and press ' OK '.
If you buy a 2 gig SD card, you will be able to take 800+ photos in 2M size.
Changing the photo quality to a lower value also increases the number of photos that can be taken, but I find it not necessary.
If you like, you can take a mixture of 6M, 4M and 2M depending on the needs, but buying a 2 gig SD card is the most important consideration.
What follows is copy and paste.
If you have Win98SE, an additional step is required and that is to install the driver necessary for the OS to recognize the card reader.
Nowadays single SD card reader sells below $10 and you should invest in one because it works in most computers with Windows OS. Sometimes I use it, instead of a thumb drive, to copy/transfer files from a laptop to the desktop or vice versa.
Your sentence that " ... the batteries only last like 1 minute..." tells it all. You probably were using ordinary AA batteries and the power got used up pretty fast by the LCD screen of this camera. So there is not enough power to retract the lens and it stayed where it was.
So much for the possible causes of your problem and don't push the lens manually, it will land you with a heavy bill to get it repaired, and hopefully this has not happen yet.
Now let us look on the bright side.
Remove the existing batteries, change to a new pair of Energizer camera battery. This should last for quite a while.
The lens should start moving and retract into the camera with the new batteries.
Next your card. It came from another camera and the switch somehow got moved and lock the card. Take it out and look at one side of it. Along the edge, there will be a small cut out, with a tiny switch in it, yellow in some and white in others. Flip the switch to the opposite side of where it is now and the card will be unlocked.
Lastly, if the above works, go and buy a set of rechargeable Ni MH batteries. Get the pack sold together with a charger. Charge it for 8 hours before you use it and you should be OK.
If you encounter problems, you got to trace back your steps, starting from whether the Operating System(OS) recognizes the USB port.
If you are using Win98SE, you need to install a driver for the card.
If you are using Win2K or XP, you have to plug in the card reader after the OS is runing and wait for the message that the OS has detected the card reader and is installing the device.
If you want to connect the camera direct to the PC, you need to set it to PC using the Tools Menu before connecting it to the computer.
You will see the menu of setups 1,2 and 3. Setup 2 lets you connect the camera to the PC via USB.
Otherwise, the following should help :
a. clear the Device Manager list of ' unrecognizable items'
b. reboot the computer without the camera attached.
c. reconnect the camera set to PC.
An alternative to the above will be to remove the SD card and insert it to a card reader.
Plug the card reader to the computer, using Win2K or XP as OS.
The computer will identify the reader and list it as a new drive. All the pictures will be found in the drive.
The best way out, for the moment, is to use a card reader.
However, I would like to see this particular problem solved. If anybody else has any personal experience, please feel free to contribute.
Just go to <a href="pccables.com/cgi-bin/orders... location</a> and you will be presented with a full list of cameras for which cables are available.
Are you able to buy your cable from the site I gave you.
For my E10, I usually copy the pictures to the computer using a card reader.
Perhaps you should do the same if you have problems buying the cable.
The main reason being the camera's auto focus system is not that fast and it always go back to a fix starting point, slowly moving the lens until the subject is in focus before the shutter actually clicks. This process is not too bad in brightly lit areas but can be noticeably slow in dim areas.
To cut off this 'slow focusing' part, half press the button to pre-focus on the subject and wait for the right moment to press the button fully. That will capture your picture much faster.
E10 does flash twice for every picture taken. Apparently this is mainly to reduce 'red eye' but you can turn the flash off if you don't need it. In fact, with flash off, there is a slight improvement in speed, but for this camera, pre-focusing is the way to quicker photo taking.
Press menu
use left button to select 'set-up 3'
use down button to select 'reset no.'
click 'OK'
A new folder will be created with 0001 as the first picture file.
For example if your original folder is 100, the new folder will be 101 and the next reset will create a folder 102. The file number will always start with 0001 such as 102-0001, 103-0001 and so on.
Should you have difficulties, remove the SD card. Then format the internal memory.
Repeat the reset procedure above. That settles the internal memory.
Next, re-install the SD card. Repeat the reset procedure. You will get a new folder with 001 as the first picture on the SD card.

If your CD has a crack in it, you can get the drivers from the Pentax site ( pentaximaging.com/customer_... ). Good luck.

In the long run, rechargeable batteries are cheaper than alkaline batteries and is a 'must have' item for owners of Pentax E10.

I am so upset because I've taken great care of this camera and nothing I've done should've caused it not to work. Any input from anyone would be appreciated.
I don't personally have any experience with the E10, but it looks like you're far from the only one to have issues with it. Check out our user reviews page here ( digitalcamera-hq.com/digita... ) and you'll see that it's actually one of the worst-rated cameras on DCHQ.
The problem you're describing sounds like a malfunctioning CCD (imaging sensor), which, yes, will require a repair from the Pentax factory. You should have a one year limited warranty on the camera, however, so assuming you're within that period you should only have to pay for the one-way shipping to the Pentax factory.
Good luck!
you should be able to get a decent 4 hour charger complete with 4 pcs of 2000 mah rechargeable battries for around 20 bucks.
You can contact Pentax customer service ( pentaximaging.com/customer_... ) to get warranty support. Good luck.
Andrew
Pentax E10 uses SD card.
It is more advisable to buy a USB SD card reader, selling at about $3-5 each, to download pictures to the computer.
Unlike cameras, Card readers don't need batteries and can be recognised immediately by Win 2000 or XP.
Try download pictures directly from the camera to the computer and your batteries will go flat within minutes.
If I were you, I would forget about the cord and go for the card reader.
The Pentax E10 is about $125 today on the internet.
If it needs repair and it is not covered by a warranty. Purchase a camera. It will be less the the repairs.
However, this may be an issue in Picasa as well. You may wish to double check what the save settings were that you used as you may have altered the resolution (from 200dpi to 72dpi for example) which could cause pixelation as well.
Andrew
Your right thumb should now be resting on the battery cover .
Press lightly on the battery cover with your thumb and slide it open. The card compartment can be seen as the empty space above the batteries.
Hold the card by it's edges with the contact points facing away from you and push it lightly and fully into the compartment until it clicks into position
Replace the battery cover and you are ready for your first picture..

Pentax Optio E10 reviews- 2/5 stars ( digitalcamera-hq.com/digita... )
I found many sales person understand cameras sold by them better than a lot of average users, and if there are not many customers around, they will demonstrate to you how to get the best out of the camera, or any cameras of the same price range if you so wish. This is very important because it gives you more choices.
I have had a lot of fun with Pentax E10, taking excellent close ups of news paper clippings, kids who can never sit still for a picture, birthday parties, and most important of all, recording the computer parts that I want to dismantle so that I know how to put them back later on. Picture quality, if you must ask, is as good, (and sharp,) as I expect it to be for a compact digital camera.
There is even an option to select the sharpness of a picture to be taken- a feature not found in many compact cameras.
I must say I collect a lot of cameras over the years. Though I like my SLR Nikons and Olympus FE150 very much, lately, Pentax E10 has become the most frequently used camera for me.
However, I must suggest you visit the camera shop to see for yourself before making any decision to buy. As Christmas is approaching, and sales are on,you may tumble on better models in the same price range. Perhaps you might want to pay a little bit more for an 8 megapixel model ?.
If it was my decission I'd probebly buy Cannon ultra compact some of the Digital Elph series, something which fits in a pocket, and have all the advantages you need, let say PowerShoot SD800 IS,ha? But I think this one is just fine for now.
Thanks
I that true and what can be said about this camera? Does anyone have any idea about that?
Thanks for any input.
Mike
Don't get the Pentax, I would rather you give me the money and I will follow you around and paint the memories you want to capture.
All SLR camera have through the lens view finder.
Recently many digital SLRs have appeared in the market. Pay a visit to the better camera dealer and you will find at least a few brands selling digital SLRs.
One should not confuse Olmpus E10 with Pentax E10.
Right on :-) Got one today and it's terrific. Just what I wanted.
Good advice. Thx.
Mike
There have been a lot of bad reviews with the Pentax E10 ( digitalcamera-hq.com/digita... ). DCHQ users seem to dislike it, and the camera only rates 2.5 out of 5 stars on sites like Amazon.com and Shopping.com.
Andrew
What you are looking for is the main issue because you do not want to regret later on and say " hey, this is not what I want"
How much you are willing to pay more or less fine tune your choices after shortlisting the cameras that meet your requirement.
Lastly, the unknown factor that nobody can tell is what feature of the camera turns you on. This could be
simple and easy to use - press a button and thats it
esthetically appealing - it's cute and "I love it,I love it"
sort of thing
large LCD screen - the joy of sharing pictures with friends
slim and handy - "it fits into my tiny handbag and still
leaves spaces for handphone and other things
Pentax E10 could be a joy to own if budget is limited and outdoor pictures are mostly taken.
For indoor pictures, you must be aware that the maximum setable ISO is 200, the useful flash distance is about 5 feet and the so called "high speed continuous mode" is about 2 frames per second.
If you like the price, the compact size, the 2.4" LCD screen and accept the fact that it is a scaled down version of Pentax A10 targetting at occassional users not wanting to spend too much money on cameras, then it is a good choice. The final choice, however, is entirely yours.
for beginers, a good starting point will be to get a compact camera, equipped with some basic features like zoom lens, 6 megapixel CCD, 2.4" LCD and a high speed shutter to capture moving objects.
at $100, Pentax E10 would fit the bill quite well, while topping up another $50 will give one more choices. ( There is actually no end to the topping up proposal because it will eventually lead to the SLRs.)
Serious amateurs should go strait to the SLRs as it gives one more control over the pictures to be taken.
Calculating on the basis of a year's ownership, depreciation at about $8.3 per month is probably like a cup of coffee for a lot of people.
Pentax E10 is therefore a good buy now because by next Christmas, you can pass it to a younger member of the family and go for a better camera without feeling any pinch.

Oh man, the Pentax E10 is one of the worst digital cameras ever. Check out the user reviews on this page ( digitalcamera-hq.com/digita... ). It is universally reviled.
Definitely get the Canon A530 ( digitalcamera-hq.com/digita... ).
as well the next time I went to use the camera and of course it wasnt working when I needed it
also on mine I read the book but I cant get the camera to get off the setting up setting ... wierd
That doesn't sound right. What exactly do you mean it won't get off the setting up setting? Can you give me some more detail on what's going on? Maybe I can help figure out what the problem is.
AND RECHARGABLE BATTERIES THE SAME ?
There are rechargeable Lithium Ion batteries, but I misspoke... this camera doesn't take those. Look for NiMH rechargeable batteries- you should be able to get them anywhere and use them in this camera in place of your regular AAs.
a soulution to your problem is try getting diffrent batteries if the kind you bought are extremly short. Talk to the maker of the bettery and see why they are so short.
So far I have taken 503 pictures with two recharge. This average out to be around 167 pictures per charge
Sanyo explains the difference by stating that eneloop batteries retain their charges much much longer than any ordinary rechargeable batteries.
Flash also takes up a lot of battery power, consequently it will deplete the batteries much faster than taking pictures without flash.
I have to keep turning on and off my camera, before batteries run out completely!!
I am forever replacing the batteries. With flash i am lucky to get 10 photos.
In my opinion, a manufacturer should not be permitted to distribute a product with such meager performance.
I am seriously thinking of returning the product.
PENTAX SUCK!
For those who still got stuck with battery problem, try this :
Goto setup. select setup2.
select Brightness, click ok
select left button and press until figure becomes -3. click ok
Reason : 2.4" LCD consumes more battery power than 1.8" LCD( or less) in older digital cameras. Setting brightness to +5 drains the battery power even faster.
2. in the same screen, select Auto Power Off
click ok.
use up button, select 2 minutes. click ok
3. set flash to Auto.
That's it and you will find an improvement.
note : do not use alkaline batteries. It is meant for situations where batteries run flat and you still want a few more shots to save the day.
This has happened with all of our batteries. Now, we put new ones in, let the camera "drain them," and then can put them into a flashlight and have it work perfectly for a long time.
Maybe this is a problem with only one batch of cameras or something--that would explain why some people don't seem to have the same problem.
Also, interestingly, when the camera decided one set of batteries was about dead, everything went green.
We will be taking our camera into a repair center soon (since it has a on-year warranttee and this is obviously not our fault!)
Good luck!
The so-called depleted battery actually means it is unable to operate Pentax E10, but it can still operate other small items like tiny alarm clocks and maybe your torch light.
Switching the camera off and on again after a short break usually allows you to take another picture or two, but not beyond that.
The true test, if you want to try, is to insert depleted batteries into another digital compact camera and see if it works, assuming, as you said, that there is still 80% of battery power left.
2. Unlike tiny alarm clocks, Digital zoom compacts need power to move the zoom lens, power to charge the flash light and power to light up the LCD screen.
High capacity rechargeable batteries will meet the power needs better than alkaline batteries.
Rechargeable batteries can be recharged in a battery charger. not in a camera.
Most manufacturers tell you that their batteries can be recharged 1000 times. I found a set of four at $10-15 will be good for many months.
Don't use alkalines and you will have less to worry about batteries, irrespective of what camera you use.
then it started to chew bateries
so i turned down the settings and switched to rechageables (seemed to work)
but now it wont take a photo at all! it focuses then just sits their with the little green brakets!!!! its a fairly random event to even get the video feature to work , and even more random to get a focused photo when the lighting issnt extreamly bright ie. afternoon or night time. im sick of this camera and never taking photos when i want it too! it takes ages to even take one, i used my friends cannon and it takes pictures with ease; as soon as you click the button its taken a pic
not like the pentax where it sits their flashing green or red and if your lucky it takes a poor quality photo
theirs nothing i can do now because its older than a year !!!
i recomend you get rid of the camera if you still can and get a better quality one like a cannon
this camera is simply not worth the hassel
Remove batteries from the camera if you don't use it. The camer still drains a little current from batteries even when the power is off.
You can find reviews for the Pentax E10 ( digitalcamera-hq.com/digita... ) on the Digital Camera HQ review page ( digitalcamera-hq.com/digita... ). Currently, it is rated an overall 2.9 stars out of 5 by Digital Camera HQ users.

Digital cameras with zoom lens need more power than what can be supplied by ordinary batteries.
Bring along spare batteries if you are shooting for events. You will find batteries wear out very fast in situations where you need to supplement the lighting condition with flashes and do a lot of zooming to get close to your subjects.

This camera is terrible. From the beginning, it's always had terrible image quality even though it claimed to be a 6.0 megapixel camera. The color was always off and it simply sucked. It's run through countless batteries, including lithium batteries. Finally, it's stopped working. Brand new batteries go in, camera turns on and without leaving the homescreen turns off. Wish I wasn't poor and could afford a new camera. Too bad I wasted my money on this hunk of crap.

Solution was the usage of best rechargable 2650 batterie + loading unit ( Philips ) . Now I can take 100 pics without changing batteries, and use even flash. Use always outdoor ( sun and mountain ) settings and sharpness/distance is ok ( will not be estimated by the camera..because it cannot do that. Crap )

I got this camera during my visit to Australia. It takes best pictures in full light otherwise a blurry image is always there.Bit unhappy to have it.

I owned a Pentax camera years ago and was very happy with it. I wanted a small digital camera and saw this ( E10 ) one on QVC. I have few good pictures.
- 1.0 out of 5
This camera takes the worst pictures ever, they are all really grainy and the flash makes them bright and really bad quality. I agree with everyone else when they say that this camera eats the battery life... it's horrible. My camera has started to act up lately where it wont turn on and it leaves the lens out. This camera also takes really slow photos, so it is impossible to catch an action shot.
My mom keeps yelling at me because I never take pictures when I go places... but it so is not worth bringing the camera with me because the pictures turn out bad anyways. DON'T BUY THIS CAMERA!!

i dont think im being dramatic in saying this camera takes the WORST photos. but i dont write off pentax, all other experiences with pentax have been very good
- 1.0 out of 5
Very upset with the camera - I took it on holiday to Vietnam, expecting really good pictures and ended up relying on a disposible camera. The pictures were blured and the point and shoot facility was rubbish - there is such a delay in pressing the button and the picture actually being taken. The battary life is very poor too!!! The few pictures I did take I managed to lose, so in my opinion it wasn't that easy to use either.
- 1.0 out of 5
Horrible camera. Eats batteries like they're going out of style, takes bad pictures. And now, the camera shuts itself off automatically as soon as I turn it on. Garbage.

broke 2 weeks after i bought it sent it 2 the company they told me they "fixed it"....worked for about a month then the battery would die in 2 minutes literally but when i put the batterys in anything else they worked fine...all in all this camera is pure crap i will never buy from pentax again...i dont even wanna sell it on ebay because i would feel bad for the buyer

I am still using my camera however pictures I take often result not that good. Pictures seem not to be still and vague. The zoom in and zoom out buttom works well however the screen shows vague pictures after having zoomed in/out.
The flash lighting of the camera works well even though I haven't used it much.

I bought this camera about 1yr ago and it was my secound one and i wish i never bought it the pitcures are terrible the video no sound and they print even worse what a waste even for $90.00 I'll go back to my 35mm before i would ever buy this again even polaroids

This camera goes through batteries like air. The camera has gotten exponentially worse as time goes by; and upon putting in a completely fresh set of batteries, the camera has gotten to the point where brand new batteries cannot sustain it for 5 seconds! I can't even use this camera anymore because it does not stay powered on.
The picture quality is terrible. It's performance in low light even more frustrating than the fuzzy lack luster pictures it takes in normal light.
The display quality of the screen is absolutely awful. Everything picturesque about this camera is fuzzy. The pictures of fuzzy, the screen quality is fuzzy, the reason why I bought this is fuzzy.
Do not buy this camera, under any circumstances. I would be upset with this camera even if I'd received it for free. It completely lacks quality of any kind.

I bought this on the back of the pentax name, I have to agree with all the negatives, it is a reasonable camera for good light conditions but any low light level shooting you would be better off with a box brownie! We took it back after a month or two due to the disturbingly short battery life only to be told that there was nothing wrong with it. As stated, it's a great camera in daylight but other than that, forget it. Not reccomended and I am ticked off that pentax offered such a piece of p00p for sale.

Will not work with Vista and Pentax has no intention of making a fix for this

This camera takes great pictures!

This camera eats batteries. I buy real good lithium batteries and they don't last. I can't attach the camera directly to my usb to upload photos because that kills the batteries instantly. I have to turn it on and off between shots or it'll simply die. What junk!

All I can say is I am glad all I paid was $65.00 USD shipped from Saskatoon Canada to Miami Florida.
For the once or twice a month I take a photo[usually for pics of merchandise I sell on Ebay or computer enthusiasts forums it barely suffices. Photos are blurry even with a tripod, battery life [rechargeable] is terrible. A piece of junk, even for $65.00. My cellphone does a better job.
spend a few dollars more, do yourself a favor.

I'm glad I only paid $40 inc. s/h for this on ebay after reading this - but I truly wish I had read this before I ever placed the bid.

I purchased this camera based on the Pentax reputation...had a wonderful SLR 35mm Pentax back in the day. This one is terrible. Blurry, poor light handling, very slow lag time, and voracious battery appetite make it a waste of time. Shoulda stuck with my cheapy Kodak.

This was my first digital camera, so I was not aware of how they were suppose to work. We bought it to learn on and its been ok. The first thing that I noticed is when I take pictures with other people with digital cameras next to me, they shoot and its over with. I have to stand there and press the button almost like I am pleading with the camera. "Come on, you can do it". i thought that was normal, until I started noticing that other people where not taking as long. Kinda embarrassing. I have a lot of shots of peoples feet, before I realized that you have to wait for that second flash.
I'm looking forward to the day it grows up and can perform like other cameras. :)

My Pentax Optio E10 is about two years old, and is a piece of junk. I load brand new batteries and after about one picture ,it tells me my batteries are depleted. What a joke.!!!!!!I wish that I had researched it before buying.
- 1.0 out of 5
Wow....this is by far the worst camera I have ever owned...even a 3.99 disposal 35mm camera can do better than this....the lag time between shots is like, oh I don't know....2 MINUTES! I now have in my photo collection more blurred photos than sharp photos. Any one reading this...read our lips, DO NOT BUY THIS CAMERA or any Pantax for that matter....You will be sorry.

I wished I had read the reviews for this camera before I purchased it! This is my first digital camera, so I really didn't know too much about megapixels, name brands, and the like. Well, I used the camera for the first time to take photographs of my 3rd grade class. I followed the shabby directions from the camera to a tee. I had to hold the button down to shoot forever and the picture came up on the LCD screen blurry. The batteries were depleted after taking 25 shots. I guess I will just put this camera away and read the reviews of other brands before I buy another one!! (It definitely won't be a Pentax!!!!)

I bought this Pentax Optio E10 yesterday, loaded it with batteries provided and the first warning posted on the screen is, can you imagine it: Battery depleted! Enuff said?

my uncle gave this camera to us. . we were very excited and thrilled to use it, since it's lightweight and promises alot of good features. . .the first picture that i took was already worst. .the lcd is low in resolution, it eats batteries like a whale eats the planktons! im a sentimental person and memories mean alot to me, the e10 made things worst!

After nearly two years of ownership; I am relieved to learn I am not the only user experiencing such poor performance from the Optio E10. Poor battery life, extremely bad picture quality and ashutter delay which leaves you in the dust trying to photograph even slow moving targets. My disappointment is so bad, I have reverted to taking photos with my conventional camera.

i recently sent my optio e10 to pentax. they gave me a repair estimate of $144 - almost what i paid for the camera. i told them that its obviously a quality issue - the camera is not old and has not been abused. he said that there isn't a known problem! well, i've told them - now they know! they should read this site! he offered to discount the repairs slightly, but i could still buy a new, better camera for around the same price. i'm going to send them a written complaint w/the complaints posted here as evidence that my pentax issues are not isolated! i had the delay in the picture taking also, but tolerated it. the main problem was the circuit board failed.

I have owned this camera for over a year. its only my second digital camera. My 2.4 megapixal which is over 7 years old took better pics. I just wanted a real point n shoot. tha darn thing take 5 seconds to take the pic after i press the button. If I was taking a pic of someting totally motionless and with a stand it would work great, but what novice does that! I thought it was just me, but it does not seem like it.
- 5.0 out of 5
my camera was actually sat on & all i had to do was force the lens back in & it worked perfectly fine...actually even better than before lol.....i broke it a few times but it still works the same. the quality pictures ar good to me, ive seen way worse & as long as you have a good quality rechargeable battery youll be fine....ive taken over 100 pictures & about a halfhour video on 1 battery charge....maybe i have the blessed camera out of the factory but to me this is great

My daughter purchased this camera for $149.00 at a local Wal-mart. A friend dropped it on the carpet in her room and the camera would not function properly. I sent it off for repair via a local camera store who told me that Pentax wanted to charge me $225.00 to repair it and that it was caused by impact damage and therefore not covered by warranty (the camera was less that 1 month old). I refused of course. I then e-mailed Pentax directly a few months ago and today received the estimate for repair. It was $65.00 Parts and $75.00 labor + shipping. It is still more to repair than the camera cost. I would not be so upset if they offered repair at a reasonable price but I feel they are selling a camera that might as well be disposable. Quality of pictures was not a major issue for us. We had made several adjustments when working with the settings. It did however use up batteries faster than any other camera I have ever owned. I agree with several other reviewers that this pentax camera is a horrible purchase. I have owned Pentax cameras in the past but I will no longer purchase any product manuafactured by Pentax (i.e. cameras, computers, phones, etc.) and have told a large quantity of friends and family about the poor customer care service on this product. I will also be filing a complaint with the Better Business Bureau.
- 1.0 out of 5
Totally unsuitable for even medium light levels. Takes 20-30 pictures before the batery dies. Suffered internal failure after 150 pictures taken. A true piece of garbage, the last Pentax I will ever own.
- 1.0 out of 5
I bought this camera hoping to get some decent, economical pictures that looked alright for a low end camera. My sisters camera was $100 cheaper, came with a rechargeable Lithium battery and lots of other extras, and still take better pics than this. Pointless.
- 2.0 out of 5
I am so grateful for your honest reviews. I thought it was just me, and not the camera. Even with the rechargeable batteries, I cannot get very many shots off before it runs too low for acceptable performance. Tweaking does no good. This is my first digital, after years and years of SLR cameras, and my disappointment is huge. I have used mostly Canon and Minolta, and will certainly shy away from Pentax. That was $200+ wasted. Thanks again. I'm out the $200 but at least I still have my confidence in my photography abilites.
- 1.0 out of 5
Have owned this pile of metal since January. Cannot get a decent, clear picture out of it, even with altering the camera setup. Forget using the red-eye flash function.......the delay between pushing the button and getting the picture is way too long, resulting in blurry pics. The store I bought it from refused to refund my money, and now the Pentax rep at their headquarters just declined to give me a refund, too........Live and learn........It might make a dandy paper weight. Shame, shame, shame, Pentax....... I will NEVER buy another product from your company.
- 1.0 out of 5
it just eats up battery,..... i tried all kinds of battery.... no use... it lasts max for 30 min.... thats once in kinda 100 times.... i thought my camera was a defective piece.... looks like the model itself is a defective one.... been cheated by the company.. should have bought the kodak ...
- 1.0 out of 5
It's all been said before: Slow to focus, eats batteries, poor color, horrible prints! What a waste of money this camera was. I should have stuck with my Kodak easy share....
- 1.0 out of 5
Having used Pentax cameras for many years I can't understand how the company could asociate it's name with something like this. After two returns from repair with the note there was nothing wrong I realized the enormity of the poor design. New batteries last for 35 to 40 shots, shutter is slower than a molases, making the camera useless for anything but still shots, and I could go on. Never again will I buy Pentax
- 1.0 out of 5
I am so disappointed with this camera. My daughter graduated kinder and all the pictures are dark and out of focus. Never again will I purchase Pentax anything. No matter what I did to fix it, it came out crappy. Took it back and they said it was fine and to "review manual". One day later was the graduation . It actually brought me to tears. Cant believe I wont have pics of my daughter. Thanks a bunch Pentax.
- 1.0 out of 5
This camera has been terribly disappointing! I needed to get a digital camera to take pictures of a home renovation I was doing and the Canon was out of stock. The sales person said the Pentax would be comparable, but she couldn't have been more wrong. Outdoors and in exceptionally good lighting conditions the camera is fine and takes good quality pictures (but I haven't owned a digital camera that didn't work outdoors). I haven't taken a decent indoor picture since I bought it. Under anything but perfect lighting conditions the pictures come out underexposed. Zooming with this camera indoors yields miserable, grainy photos and action shots indoors are impossible because of the agonizingly slow shutter response. I've given up on trying to use my rechargeable batteries that worked fine with my old Ricoh and the Pentax ate through a package of Duracell Ultras in less than 2 weeks. I'm in the market for a new camera so just so I can capture a few decent pictures of family holidays. I'd never buy a Pentax again and have already warned others off of it.
- 3.0 out of 5
Just this December I recieved a PENTAX E10 for the holidays. It is very complicated and frustrating, so I don't recommend it. It takes a while for the camera to actually shoot the pictures and it litteraly is a "battery eater." The USB connection was easily broken and it is big and heavy for a camera. Although it takes gorgeous pictures and has many options to choose from.
So in conclusion, try looking for another camera. Or if you're looking for a bargain and you don't need the "one and only" camera, then this one would be just fine for you. Not reccommended for first-time camera users.

I bought this camera and needless to say the store salesman took me for my money. This camera takes awful pictures sometimes they come out sometimes they don't. I would never spend my money on such junk again.

It is the dumbest camera I have ever seen. Nothing ever works and it kills batteries like nothing. It takes forever to take a picture. The flash is always either too bright or too dim. The driver never works. I couldn't use the PC camera. I just hate this camera and I should've gotten my money back for this worthless camera.

Since August 2006 I am using this camera on regular basis.even after changing the mode and settings very much, I haven't had a satisfactory picture.I bought this camera due to the reputation of the company on Optical Cameras. I am very much disappointed.I will never go for or advice somebody to go for pentax digital cameras.
- 4.0 out of 5
I've had nothing but good luck out of my camera. Placed the settings on highest quality, yes I get a few less pics on my memory card but that's to be expected if you want quality. As for battery life, some of the cheaper batteries do go out quickly or don't pull enough power to even turn the camera on, however, even with some of the better quality like an energizer or such I have been able to take approximately 30 -40 pics before the batteries start to go down. Those complaining that they go down quicker are probably zooming in and out lots or something, I've done that myself until I figured out how quick the batteries went down that way.
Overall—for the price you pay for this camera, your get quality shots and ability for voice recorded video clips. No major complaint on this end

most horrible camera i ever saw. The 1st set of batteries finished in 10 mins. So i bought new ones. Those finished in another 10 mins. So i bought another (like a moron) and those finished in 10 mins too. Not only that but the picture quality was HORRIBLE. Plus the video shutter wont work with computer. I returned within 24 hours for a loss of shipping charge.

I took this camera to Italy for 11 days and I went through 28 batteries. It takes beautiful outside photos but inside shots that require the flash....not so much. I know it is a low price, but what's the use if you can't use it 50% of the time? As of this week, the nice big LCD screen died and my only recourse the Circuit City guy said was to buy another one or try to have it repaired. I doubt that is a cost effective option. I'll check this website for recommendations.

This camera has been nothing but trouble for from the purchase. The picture quality is poor, the speed of the camera is slow, there are not many features, the batteries die quickly, and it's not worth it. SOrry pentax, but you made a horrible camera

only advise : do not buy it ^_^

It is a reasonable camera at its price. 6M pixels, bright ands sharp outdoor pictures, night mode is a bit noisy but what do you expect for a camera that is less than $200? My 15-yrs old daughter loves it very much. When she went to Japan, she does not need to carry charger or power adapter, she just bought a pack of AA batteries with her. I would say the battery life is short so you better carry spare battery with you or make sure you have 7-11 around you.
- 4.0 out of 5
I bought the camera before I read the reviews and I was very apprehensive about the camera. After using it on a trip to Hawaii, I was very impressed. My photos turned out beautiful. I also took some indoor flash photos of my dogs that I posed for some glamour spoof shots and the clarity and color are very good. I really like the size of the camera and the convience of it. The shutter speed indoors is a little slow for pictures like blowing out birthday candles, but that is the only problem that I had with the camera.
- 2.0 out of 5
I would not recommend this camera every time you use it you will need two new batteries and i doesn't come with a charger.
- 4.0 out of 5
Takes great pics. Do not use alkaline batteries. This is stated in the manual. Invest in the best NiMH batteries and a good SD card. Read the manual and use the correct white balance and ISO for conditions and the pics will be clear and focused.

I thought it was the batteries not charged enough or that it was me...but after looking at the pictures taken with this camera I am horrified!!! I graduated from nursing school and my bf used the camera to take pictures.....all of them were blurry, double exposure....you name it......I can NEVER get those pictures again as this was a one time deal...I took pictures of my classmates & they all were blurry..even holding still waiting until what seemed like forever waiting for the shutter to click.....it alnmost is like when the batteries are dead in a good camera...the way it gets really slow right before it dies from no power......I am so upset & angry over the memories I can never get back again that were supposed to be taken with my camera..this thing is the biggest piece of garbage for a digital camera I have ever seen!!! Never buy one of these!!!

This camera takes blurry pictures, very slow pictures - you press the button and then let go and then the picture gets taken, by which time the subject has passed. The video option does not always work. Very very dissapointed.
- 2.0 out of 5
I purchased my Pentax Optio E10 and have been continuously disappointed in the quality of the pictures. I thought it was me and read the manual carefully, and changed options where it seemed useful. However during the recent holidays I had a chance to match pictures taken at the same place and time with other cameras and the results were evident. This camera is an underperformer. This suspicion was confirmed when I saw how others have rated it on this site. Unfortunately this has now "discolored" my perspective for Pentax in general; no pun intended.
- 1.0 out of 5
I have owned this camera for about five months and have struggled with it way too much. The delay time for taking pictures is way too long and the pics come out blurry. The Battery life also isn't very good even with rechargable lithium batteries. I am extremely unsatisfied with this product and have warned everyone not to buy it.
- 1.0 out of 5
this camera was given to me as a gift, i won't even stoop so low as to re-gift this camera to some other sucker. the battery life sucks, went thru a set of batteries just setting up the camera, another set taking 5 photo's.
shutter lag time is the worst i have ever seen.
nice size but poor performance.
- 1.0 out of 5
This camera takes blurry pictures regardless of how still you hold it. Also, the amount of money I've spent in batteries so far should have been put towards buying a decent camera in the first place. Unfortunately I paid $230 for this camera and I thought I was getting a decent deal. I was wrong.

This camera was bought for me by my wife, and is our first digicam. We have shot for years with Pentax K1000s. Honestly, I would never seriously consider a camera that is designed so that your only view comes through the LCD panel, simply because you have to hold the thing out in the air while you shoot, which is very unstable and is the single biggest drawback to this type of camera. Find something to brace it against. That being said I am very pleasantly surprised at the picture quality. You definitely need to invest in some Ni-MH batteries and a recharger, and a storage card is a must unless you only want to shoot in 480x480, but if you can't get good photos out of this camera it's you, not the camera.

this camera is horrible. i just got it yesterday and am already taking it back because of the horrible quality. the pictures taken inside are horrible and the flash makes the pictures look dull and without flash they are fuzzy. DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY BUYING THIS CAMERA!! IT IS HORRIBLE.

Bought this camera for the in-laws for X-mas. Loaded the batteries that came with the camera.
Batteries drained after ten minutes. Put in new
batteries.... same result. It takes crappy pictures no matter what setting it is on. DO NOT BUY THIS CAMERA UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES !!!!!!!
Waste of money and time. Buy a Canon instead.
It's definitely worth the extra bucks.

I had a Hewlett Packard Camera and replaced it with the Pentax E10, worst thing I ever did!!! The battery life is horrible!!!!! Not to mention that the pictures are too. I went on the strength of the Pentax name, trust me, I would never consider buying anything from Pentax again!!!

Pentax Optio E10, my first digital camera.
I put in a 1 gig sd card, brand new Ni-MH batteries. Timer works, flash works, still pics work with a 3 sec. delay. The movie mode does not work. Nothing. No sound and no way to turn sound on.
I believe parts were omitted during assembly at the factory.
No response by email from Ontario reps.
DO NOT BUY THIS CAMERA.

This camera never took a clear picture. Now the focus is locked. Every time you turn it on it goes to full 6x zoom and won't go down. I called Pentax and explained that our house burnt down therefor we no longer had receipt. Offered fire report for proof but they still refused to honor warranty. Very bad customer service. So sad not to be able to take Christmas pictures.

Battery life is a complete joke. I get one SHORT day's shoot on a pair of batteries. Blurry images, hard to understand. I actually THREW THIS IN THE GARBAGE CAN! Never again, Pentax!!!
- 1.0 out of 5
I bought this camera while on a cruise. Previously I owned a Canon. I am really sorry I didn't stick with another Canon. My comments on this camera reflect the other negative comments I read,i.e., battery life, focus, etc. How can a brand name like Pentax make such a horrible product? My concern is returning it to the dealer in St. Marteen. Learn from my mistake and try the camera out before you leave the port. Veery veery veery disapointing!

I should have never wasted my time with this camera! I can't believe I have to return it after I waited so long in the lines. Everything is bad, I'm just happy im not the only one that thinks so.

I purchased this camera while on vacation. Nice size and price, but terrible quality. I took it into a Dave Matthews concert. Not only did most of my pics suck, but the video was disastrous. I thought it was because of the darkness and distance so I held onto it for a little while longer. Tried taking simple pics of my 4 year old. I could never get a clear image due to the shutter lag. It sometimes took over 7 seconds from when I pushed the button until it would actually take the picture. Needless to say, I returned it. Definitely stay away from this camera.
- 1.0 out of 5
I agree with all of the bad reviews. Returned mine today after trying all sorts of ways to make the thing take a decent picture. I now have a Canon A530 which is 10 times better and only added about $30 to the price. Whatever you do, try before you buy and make sure you deal with a reputable store that will exchange.

The pictures have progressively gotten worse to the point we are going to EAT OUR loss and buy another one. Pictures are blurry even when settings are correct.
- 1.0 out of 5
Haven't had a clear picture since owning it. Battery life is horrific. Total waste of money. I am eating my losses and buying a different camera.
- 1.0 out of 5
I have not been able to get a good picture taken with this camera yet. I replaced an older 3.2 megapixel nikon with this pentax and the nikon was better. I am not a expert but it appears that the automatic focus does not work properly along with its other flaws. I am returning this camera and i plan to replace it with a nikon L6.

don't waste ur money to buy this.

I bought this camera a few months ago and i am GREATLY disappointed! The battery life is horrid, the screen resolution is sad, takes bad movies, and the worst thing is the shutter lag. it takes nearly 2 seconds to take a photograph. In retrospect, i should have took the camera back the second i opened the box. PENTAX thinks that they can rip off the public with this infernal device. Trust me, DO NOT GET THIS CAMERA! it is an overall disgrace!
- 4.0 out of 5
i bought this camera because of the name and the price to take to my sons graduation from basic combat training. after reading reviews about different digital cameras i knew the internal memory would not be enough, and that i would need rechargeable batteries, which i bought before our trip. i played around with the different settings and took some great shots!! the only drawback was the written manual, it did not explain everthing i had to figure it out on my own even losing some important pics. the cd manual doesnt work. as far as the time it takes to take a picture you can set it so that it will take the pic right away. when you fool around with it make sure that you protect your pics first.

I bought this camera from QVC in July 2006 to take pictures of my fourth grandchild. I was so disappointed. It takes one picture at a time. I thought I would get used to the wait but it was bad.I wrote to Pentax via email and did not receive a response. I had 30 days to return the camera. While I was waiting for a response the 30 days passed and now I can not return the camera. So now I have a very slow camera to put up with.....very disappointed

last year we bought a pentax optio 60, we where quite happy with the camera . last week it broke down on us with a lens issue ,sending it back to the company they decided to replace it with the e10 model. all i can say is i hate it , the res is low , the shutter to slow and and taking photos of anything inside is a waste of time . even after taking shots trying all the different settings i could not get one decent photo out of it . i have an 4 year old canon a300 powershot 3.2mp that does a far better job than this.
- 2.0 out of 5
This is a poorly design camera. It cannot take good pictures, unless it is outdoors with full sunlight using a tripod. Very bad picture quality. Camera has a design flaw. Don't buy this camera or you will be disappointed.!!
- 4.0 out of 5
I don't find this camera so bad after all. The two "handicaps" of this camera are the low battery life time and the low resolution of the LCD screen. But reviews like "it takes crappy, blurry pictures" just aren't true, if you hold it more or less steady while taking the picture, you'll get really good results. But you can't expect a perfect camera for that price. It's not the best, but it's a good one.

My boyfriends mom got this camera for us and for my boyfriends sister as an early chirstmas gift. Not a single picture either of us take on any setting comes out looking good. They come out too bright, and if we zoom blurry. Every person looks white as a ghost or so bright we can't tell who they are. The manuel it came with didn't help either it explained the simple things both of us already knew like how to put batteries in, how to attach the strap, change the time and date...then the other 3/4s was the same info in other languages. And the batteries died when changing flash settings, I had to change them 3 times and I have only used it maybe 5 times.
- 2.0 out of 5
I got this camera to replace my old 2.1 Megapixel HP camera. I was NOT HAPPY! The pictures tend to be yellow or green (no flash) or they are too dark and flat (flash). I poured over the user manual (not the quick one—the complete one) and have tried to adjust the settings. It helps a little, but not much.
It also has a problem in thinking that batteries are dead when they are actually not (and then refusing to work until I put in new ones—the old ones can go to flashlights and work perfectly!).
The one upside: the camera takes video with sound. My old one couldn't do sound. So, though I don't quite like what it did to the lighting, I do have 3 precious videos of my 4-month-old cooing. I am happy for that!

I am relieved to see that I am not the only one with the battery issue. I am so sorry that I bought this camera. We got it from QVC and we still have 1 more payment to make. Has anyone called Pensucks directly?? I am going to call them tomorrow. I am so curious to see what they will say about this issue. And YES, it takes so long too take a picture. This camera is not meeting our needs at all!!
- 3.0 out of 5
this camera takes great pictures, but the battery life is HORRIBLE! i have had this camera for less than 1 day and had it on for about 4 minutes total and had to change the batteries 2 times already. good camera, bad battery life.
- 1.0 out of 5
I bought the camera thinking i'm buying a good one - i mean after all, Pentax is supposed to be great! It was also not the cheapest of the cameras I looked at. Thought paying a few extra hundred Rand for a Pentax would at least give me a quality camera. I've never been more disappointed in my life!
I've read the user's manual, done what needs to be done and still my photos come out blurred. My camera has been taken back to the supplier - if i get a refund I'll definitely not "invest" in Pentax again!
- 1.0 out of 5
Taking the camera back today! A 2-second shutter delay is totally horrid in this day and time. I predict that Pentax will pull this model as soon as they have a marketable substitute.
- 1.0 out of 5
I called the Pentax company and did complain to them
that the camera was the worst camera I ever had. I told him I bought the camera because of the Pentax name brand. He said that some customers are looking
for a cheaper camera. I told him if he would give me another camera in trade...he said no.
So, all you people out there...NEVER BUY A PENTAX
CAMERA!!!!

I just got this camera and its my first Digital camera. I think it is fine, I messed around with the settings for a while and there is absolutely nothing wrong with the pictures it took. They even printed out very good. I hit the format button and lost all my photos but I brought it into a camera shop and they were able to get them back for me, not to the camera but they put them on disk and printed them out.

I go to the store with m mind already set on buying a kodak dig...everyone we know who owns one loves them and they always take great pics, i have even borrowed my in laws kodak and loved it. so why did i sway, well the salesman convinced me that this was more camera for my money. So i get it home and drop the batteries in take about 10 crappy pics and the first set of batteries are dead, so theres 3 bucks to add to my total bill. So i put 2 more in and take the camera with me to a birthday dinner. took 15 crappy pics there and 2nd set of batteries dead...now mind you these were the batteries they packaged with the camera...lol. So when i get home we put the cd manual in the computer to see what we were doing wrong. first surprise, the manual says do not use alkaline batteries it will deteriorate your camera (ok then why did you put them in with the camera right?) so we adjusted some settings on the camera..we are now on our 3rd set of batteries...wth? still after adjusting the settings we still arent' satisfied...oh and the 3rd set of batteries are now dead after loading our pics on the computer so we could try to fix them....THE MORAL OF THE STORY IS GO WITH YOUR GUT....i should have gotten the little reliable kodak...will do tomorrow!!!

Totally disappointed

Wow what great paper weight. The Optio E10 is only good for that and maybe to give to somebody you hate for a christmas gift. The batteries are used up fast, super fast if you use the flash 3 times. If you don't use a tripod your pictures turn out like you washed them in acid. I hate this camera and can't wait to sell it to you. Why would they try to make a digital camera figure out the "proper exposure"? If you can see it on the screen it should be good to go. Oh no, it sits in your hand and focuses in and out and holds the shutter open for 2 seconds so that it can screw up your photo for you.
- 1.0 out of 5
we were sold this camera buy a really slcik salesman in florida, not only were we ripped off but we got home and found out how bad the E10 really is. There's a massive delay in shutter speed and a lot of photos come out blurred. Pentax should be ashamed!!! DO NOT BUY THIS CAMERA
- 4.0 out of 5
bought this nice looking camera, got it home opened it up,took out some really crap pictures.Read the manual and adjusted accordingly. Now all my pictures are great.I mainly use the S mode .Im using a 1 GB memory card and rechargeable batteries.I always carry a spare set. This is a good camera for the price.
- 1.0 out of 5
I can live with the terrible batter life. I can life with some design flaws. I can live with the poor quality of the LCD. But the amazingly poor quality of the pictures I cannot accept. Outdoors, in strong sunlight, on a tripod, this camera might take a decent shot. ANYWHERE else, it is aweful.
I bought this to have a handy camera to keep in my pocket instead of my better-quality but bulky Olympus. A wedding was the perfect opportunity to check it out. Indoors, forget about it. If it is dark and you need the flash, forget about it. Medium light, no good. Any movement, blurry. Subject moving, blurry. Change to "sport" mode - nothing but a smear on the screen.
Bottom line, the quality of the photos is on par with a cell-phone camera...nothing more. Sorry, to get this compact size and big LCD, you really do have to pony up the extra bucks.
- 1.0 out of 5
I have been so disapointed as well!! im glad to hear im not the only one! i bought mine duty free on the way to new zealand cos thought it would be great for my holiday... well besides all the blurriness and delayed shutter speed it wiped all my photos off the camera when i was just trying to delete one. i know i was being careful not to delete all and after talking to three other people that own this same model and have done exactly the same thing im sure its a fault in the camera cos i have managed to lose all my photos twice more even after being extra careful cos i know how easy it is.... OH.. feels good to get this out! bottom line... shit camera!
- 1.0 out of 5
i can't believe I bought this. The shutter speed is so slow... You cannot get a decent picture. The flash is terrible...Everyone looks green or yellow in my pictures. I should have spent the extra hundred bucks for a nikon or a canon!!! What a waste...a disposable camera takes better pics!
- 1.0 out of 5
It says 6mp but it looks like a 2mp image stretched and interpolated. 9/10 images taken with this camera come out blurry. That's because the shutter stays open for almost a whole second, even in bright light. Alkaline batteries last about 20 minutes. Lithiums, an hour. The final picture rarely looks like what you saw in the viewfinder. The autofocus feature takes a good 2 seconds, and only works about half the time. Sometimes it will blur the hell out of a perfectly focused image. Then there is a good 1-second delay before the shutter opens. The camera was $150, but after buying the memory card and all the extra batteries I had spent nearly $250 on this piece of crap. I have seen $20 cameras outperform this piece.
- 1.0 out of 5
I own several digital cameras and bought this one to take backpacking because it was small and light weight. What a mistake. All the reviews I have read above are correct...this is the worst camera that anyone could have. I have gone through 2 sets of batteries in about 30 minutes. Out of 30 some test pictures only one was saveable. The shutter speed is laughable. The LCD makes the already grainy photos look worse. Do not waste your time or your money on this camera. Buy something better and you will save money on the first day by not buying all the batteries this beast requires. It doesn't even support USB2! I feel sorry for the engineers that released a product this poor. On my way up to the mountains tomorrow I am returning this camera.

My daughter broke my Toshiba camera (a phenomenal 3.2 Mp btw) by accidently dropping it on the floor, and was told by the repair shop to buy a new one. So the salesman at Futureshop recommended this Pentax (good camera for the price, he said).
The only good thing I can say about this camera is that it came with an inkjet printer (stupid mail-in rebate, that's another story). About 10% of the pictures are focused; the rest are grainy at best, and very blurry at worst. On the shots that are actually IN focus (doesn't matter if the subject moves or not), the colours are washed out.
Okay, I get it that if you pay less, you get less quality (in general). But that DOESN'T give companies the excuse to pawn off absolute crap for several hundred dollars! If I wanted a camera that doesn't work, I'll use the old broken one. Unfortunately I did not use the camera within the 14 day time period (stupid me) so I can't take it back to the store.
Bottom line: after this piece of garbage, I'll NEVER buy Pentax again, and will actively discourage anyone I know from buying one as well.

I hope I had seen these reviews before!....slow with flash, poor in poor ligth conditions and battery hungry!....
- 4.0 out of 5
A good camera for it's price!
Don't judge too hard something before you know everything about it!
At first, i thougt that is a bad camera, even for it's low price, but it's not!
It's true, the two major ''negative'' reviews for it are battery consumption and week flash.
But, compare with other brands that i've owned (even SONY and NIKON), it has an excellent capture in low-light environements and if you know how to make a picture, believe me, you can get something that you will remember for years to come!
Personally, i'm happy with it (for it's price an not only)!

THIS CAMERA IS COMPLICATED, DARK BLURRY PICS AND TAKES TOO LONG TO ACTUALLY TAKE THE PIC.

Just bought this Camera from BigW, thought it was nice looking, got it home opened it up, takes really crap pictures takes too long and they are blurred, upsetting cos i cant get a beautiful shot of my 9 week old son and his smiles that last for shot times! Dont bother buying this!!!

I can't believe I bought this POS. I am so disappointed, after owning an Olympus. Had my old Olympus 6 years and thought the technology would be had possibly advance (whoops, not with this Pentax). My old Olympus puts this camera to shame.
- 2.0 out of 5
I bought this camera yesterday. Since then I have went through 3 pairs of batteries and I am working on pair #4. This is ridiculous. I have only taken about 45 pictures most of which were so blurry that I had to delete them anyway. I ended up with 20 usable pictures. The camera only lasts about 20 minutes in total before "battery depleted" pops up. I couldn't believe it. The "sport" mode is joke. I couldn't even capture a crawling baby with out it looking like poltergeist. I don't have the optional AC adapter, so I don't know if it charges the camera itself or not and uses the batteries as back up. If it does, that may be an option. I like the design, features, and concept of the camera. And I love the price even more. I could even overlook the blurry pictures, but I can't overlook the battery issue. That's major. It will be going back to the store. I am very let down.
- 1.0 out of 5
Other users had summarized this worthless camera. Eats batteries, grainy pictures, it's so bad that for the 1st time ever I write a product review!!!
Pentax should recall them.
Does anyone know if we can return it to Petax?
- 1.0 out of 5
I went on a camping trip and opted to buy a couple of disposable cameras. I didn't want to loose any pictures due to the horid Pentax shutter delay. It's a shame since I like the size of the camera. Buy something else.
- 1.0 out of 5
This by far the worst camera anyone could ever buy. Inconsistant pictures every time.Poor indoor quality. So much shutter lag I might as well draw a picture instead. As far as I'm concerned this is a very expensive disposable camera. I would never buy Pentax again!!!!!
- 3.0 out of 5
Well I have read the reviews and i would have to agree with most of the comments made,The shutter speed really is crap i had a kodak easyshare C340 but it stopped working so i brought the pentax second hand. The batteries in the kodak did nt last either and since i have put them in the pentax they seem to be lasting fine (Energizer NIMH nickel 1700mAh.)so i am quite happy with that. On the upside it is easy to use. If i was buying a camera new i would not buy this model. Upside i only paid $80aus :)
- 1.0 out of 5
This camera major sucky!!!3 pictures or buy memory card? Eat batteries like wild hyena of africa. Go back to store tomorrow! I buy disposable for coming vacation.
- 2.0 out of 5
I returned this camera two days after I purchased it because of the way it depletes batteries. I thought at first that the set of batteries which came with the camera were defective but after replacing them with new ones, the same thing happened. The camera has several good features and I liked the size but I think the batteries should last longer than 20 minutes.
- 4.0 out of 5
I think its very important to note that this camera needs to be set up in order for it to function effectively. Definitely read the manual and adjust accordingly. I can take pictures within 1 second and have not experienced major picture flaws. Good little camera for the money.
- 1.0 out of 5
Take entirely too long to take pictures, shots blurry, okay subject that don't move at all (don't have to many of those that I take). Don't waste money, had Kodak 5 Mg pixel that was far far superior. All batteries die quickly
- 4.0 out of 5
This was our first digital we purchased and overall I have been happy with it. I love the big LCD screen and how easy it was to use. The only I can say bad about it would be that it would take a second or two to actually click a picture.
- 1.0 out of 5
I found this little cam to be an absolute beauty!
(if you don't mind lugging around a car battery to keep it (working???)
I don't know if my E10 is faulty or not (hope so :-D ) but it scoffed the set of duracell ultras it came with in 20 minutes and did the same to a set of Ni~Mh 2500 mAh!
But on the upside I found the time lag to be a real bonus as there is no need to go into the pesky menu and set any silly self timer settings! No no no it does it all for you !!! EVERY FREEKING TIME !!
Now don't get me wrong this has it's benifits as this may be the first "candid camera" ever sold! I took a pix of grandma and said "smile gran!" and by the time the thing snaped poor old gran had dozed off and her false teeth had slipped half way down her chin!! (Anybody know of any funny pix competition sites?) Although the picture was so blurred that it looks more my great grandmothers ghost!!!
I have had this cam less than a day and that is too long! It is going back tomorrow el pronto for a full refund. My daughters old elcheepo kodak @ 3.2 Mp even out performs this thing.
Not impressed and have to wonder why pentax would allow this junker out of the plant.
- 1.0 out of 5
I just bought and will be returning it. The battery is already flashing that it is low and I have only taken about 15 pics. The picture quality is not what I expected. I had a Kodak 2.2 megapixel and we were upgrading after it died. This was a downgrade!!!
- 1.0 out of 5
Would have to be the worst digital camera on the market. My sister in law bought it on the advice of a slick salesman. Her first digital and what an experience for her. SLow speed, overwashed blurry pics, chews batteries, no viewfinder. Pentax should be ashamed for releasing this junk and recall it. Seriously, it's that bad. I have an old 4 year old 2MP digital camera around that is far superior.
We are returning it and getting a canon A430 which is cheaper and gets good reviews. Never again Pentax. your reputation is suffering from the E10. Recall it NOW!
- 3.0 out of 5
Too bad about the shutter delay. Forget about trying to take an action shot. But for that issue, Pentax would have a real winner. The image quality , ease of use, size, and computer friendly software make this a very attractive entry level camera.
New to the digital camera market I guess I'm not sorry I bought it. But for the shutter lag I would love it, even though it is an energy hog. A responsive shutter would have made this a forgivable sin.
- 2.0 out of 5
After this camera I am seriously thinking about going back to 35mm film! I timed it and it takes a full 6 seconds from pressing the button to take a picture to it actually taking a picture. That is a long time when you are trying to catch a child in action! They dont know the meaning of "wait for the camera" I bought this to take on a trip to Disney this weekend and Im taking it back today to find something else. I guess it is true....you get what you pay for!

I was making my 1st digital camera purchase and I looked for about 1 hour at the store and decided to buy this..features appeared appealing, nice size, easy buttons. I got it home and was thinking I was doing something wrong when it took FOREVER after I hit to button for the picture to take. My son is 4 years old and he moves quick....when the picture came out he was 6 years old! For the novice buyer this is reason enough not to buy. Then I read the reviews and can't wait for my batteries to die. I am taking back tomorrow. DONT BE FOOLED BY COST! is ain't worth it!

Very unhappy with the pictures from day one. Embarassed to share pictures with anybody. I am going to buy a camera that works. You don't expect something this bad from a well known company in the camera business.
- 1.0 out of 5
i got this camera for a present for my birthday and i am so dissapointed, not only was the one that i got faulty (it chewed up the batteries and eventually stopped working) the replacement is only a slight improvement in that it works, it has at least a 5 second delay for taking a shot, is difficult to film videos on and most images turn out blurry. my sister has a kodak easy share and let me tell you for 2 mp less than mine it is a whole lot better value for money and a whole lot easier to use. dont buy this camera
- 1.0 out of 5
This camera is a junk one, advice all of you do not go for this. This is definitely cheaper, but the photos are terrible. Even if you change it to any mode, you will not get a good picture.
I have tried all the possibilites for get good picture. I have already taken around 1000 pics but nun of them are good.
Repenting a lot.
I wanted to exchange it for any other camera, was ready to pay extra amount to the vendor. But this vendor does not take it back at all.
- 2.0 out of 5
note the title, this camera is slow in processing information, takes about 10 seconds to take a photo and is really hard to take video with, take my advice, go for a kodak

I bought this on impulse. Having read the reviews, it would be foolish to open the box. It's going straight back!
- 2.0 out of 5
Bought it yesterday. Took about 60 pictures and it consistently gave me INCONSISTENT pictures. One picture would be nice, clear and colorful, the next picture would be fuzzy. This is something I would expect from a cheaper camera. It used the batteries up quickly and the pictures were mediocre at best. I returned it the next day and gladly forfeited the $30.00 restocking fee. I would not recommend this camera to anyone. There are better cameras for the price.
- 4.0 out of 5
Beautiful camera but sometimes the pictures are poor.
- 3.0 out of 5
If you can get it at under $200, it's a pretty good value. Be prepared though, the longer you leave it on the more quickly you'll run through batteries, so add to the price 2 sets of rechargable batteries and an external adapter ($15 at Radio Shack for the 3V 700 mA) It does take a while to take a shot, and some pale blues and greens seem to get washed out. On the other hand, at high resolution the pictures can come out incredibly sharp and it also works as an amazingly good web cam if you get a micro-tripod. Also, it does take movies, either to it's internal card or to your PC, so it's good for recording seminars.
- 2.0 out of 5
I've had Pentax film cameras before & been quite satisfied but this one is awful. About 85% of the time the pictures are blurry, which is infuriating. And the image quality is not nearly as clear as my previous Canon. I consider this camera a waste of my money.
- 2.0 out of 5
This camera is anything but simple. A simple camera for me is simply point, shoot and have a nice pic as a result. This cam is not that. And the manual does not help either. I regret buying this cam and considers it a big mistake. Pentax is now banned in my book. If you want a digicam, simply go Canon.
- 2.0 out of 5
I am also disappointed with the shutter speed and the fact that you can not change it. It takes forever to take a picture and by the time it does, the picture is blurry or grainy. I used a different model of pentax that I loved, until it broke, right after the year was up for warranty. I sure thought this one would work good too. I can't afford to buy a new camera every year. I will not purchase pentax again!!

I have purchased the optio e10 for my son and could not believe the poor photo`s I that was getting from a 6mp camera.up close they were flashed out at three mtrs the photos were dark.

I bought this because of the features and the 6MP, however after receiving it and trying to take a few photos, I was so unimpressed with the delay and the fact that I would need to keep replacing batteries and buy a memory card so I could take more than 3 pictures... I didn't bother to download the discs to my computer.. I deleted the picture I had taken and boxed it back up. I will be replacing it this week! Don't waste your time or money thinking this camera is a good buy!

Writing this review as I wait on hold to try to return this thing. It is essentially useless. It has a long delay (at least 5 seconds) after you press the button, during which either you or the subject moves. It does not handle variations in light. All pictures have been grainy. It goes through a lot of batteries. The software that came with it managed to find my entire music collection and load it onto the memory card, then wouldn't let me delete it.
All in all a poor product.

Shutter speed is way too slow. Not recommended for someone who is taking pictures of children - by the time the camera focuses and shoots, the shot is gone. I will be returning this one and trying again. However, as far as batteries - I did not have any trouble with it eating batteries. Spend a little more and put in the lithium batteries.

This is a terrible camera in terms of the delay when taking shots and the image quality. For 6MP I expected MUCH better. I guess you get what you pay for, it is a cheap camera, cheap shots! Actually, not so cheap when it comes tothe amount of batteries needed! It doesn havea huge LCD which is good for the kids, and is easy to operate. But I would LOVE to swap it for something, anything else!!!!
I wouldn't recomend it at all, even for kids, it is just too annoying!

Takes good/great pics outside but indoors...yuk...does not focus well, light is a HUGE problem...direct light and a total wash...too little and the flash does not compensate. Quality is no better than a disposable camara!!!

haven't had this camera for very long. does take a little time between pressing the shutter release button and taking the picture, but it is due to the auto exposure and auto focus.
it does display the picture after you take the shot, but it is not on by default, check the menu to set it. for a 2 x 3 inch camera, it has a 3x optical zoom, and takes AA batteries. i find the picture quality to be decent, but don't try to compare it to an slr camera.
haven't had much luck with the sport setting, moving objects came out blurry, will mess with my iso settings to see if it will fix it.

i'm very happy with this camera in terms of "value for money". it's easy to operate, pics are OK, very sleek design and compact. where can you get a 6 megapixel and 2.4 lcd with only 175 US dollars. my old man who used to own a photo/ca,mera shop always tells me that for camera-always go for canon, nikon or pentax. love this camera..

I have had this camera 2 weeks taken about 25 photos, downloaded some photos onto it and I am on my 5th set of batteries. The photos are great when it finally takes the shot after you press the shutter release, (the delay is annoying).
I was looking for a cheap camera while working away so i can look back on my time here, but with out travelling with a pile of batteries this thing is usless

This camera is extremely slow to focus, and even slower to take an actual photograph. Doesn't seem to handle varied light conditions either. Most photos come out grainy. My 5 year old 2MP Kodak does a better job.

I use 512 mb memorycard,it can only takes a few shots then I had to replace with brand new batteries.this is really cost me a lot of money buying new batteries. This is annoying and frustrated.

camera did not come with memory card. file size of picture is 10 times the size of my canon camera images. I had to buy a 2gb memory card.

I was given one as a present and wish I could give it back.
The delay (focussing, shutter stc.) is so long that either I have swung the camera away from the subject or they got bored and walked away.
No use at all for spontaneous shots of family etc.
Pity because in other ways it seems so good, nice finish, size, simple to use but I am surprised Pentax allow a product such as this onto the mrket. I have had a Pentax film camera for many years and have been very satisfied.
I'm sure it (E10)will spend much of its life in a drawer unused, it is just so frustrating.
I usually use digital SLR with virtually no lag so this is doubly frustrating.
Not had chance to check image quality yet, just have no interest in downloading at the moment, I am SO disappointed.
