Teenagers and arts-and-crafters take note. The RS1000 is an ultra-compact point-and-shoot with a customizable skin. Photo-wise, this is a run-of-the-mill $149 camera, with 14 megapixels, a modest 4x zoom, and 720p HD video and what is sure to be ho-hum image quality, but the point of the RS1000 is to give casual photographers an option to personalize the camera so it's more like an accessory than a gadget. A few skins come prepackaged, but users can design their own using a stencil or free software at Pentax's website, or even order a vinyl print with an included gift-card. The RS1000 stands out a bit from the over-crowded pack of low-performance ultra-compacts.
