Pentax Optio T20
Editor's Review
Pentax T20 upgrades their intriguing touchscreen ultracompact T10, with 7 megapixels and increased sensitivity. The 3.0-inch LCD dominates the back of this slim camera, and all the functions and features can be accessed by interacting with the camera's innovative touchscreen. It's a neat little perk on a great camera.

Pentax Optio T20 Comments & Questions (write your own!)
I'd also try using your flash, even in day light. Flash will freeze the action and make your subject "pop" in the photo.
Also, reset your camera. This is a fairly easy procedure which involves either going into your setup menu and choosing "reset" (or intialize), holding down the menu key for 5 seconds, or, removing the batteries for a few minutes. It may be that the firmware loading got corrupted and the camera just needs to be "rebooted," which is something that turning it on/off won't accomplish. But after which, you should have the camera reset to factory default settings.
Another tip is to go to the Pentax website and look for firmware updates. Download and install them.
Good luck.
None of the major review sites (those that typically do tests of cameras' timings and whatnot) have reviewed the T20 yet, so there's no hard data out there for me to quote you. According to at least one source I found, the shutter lag on the older T10 is 0.2sec, so maybe that will give you some kind of baseline. And maybe someone who has a T20 will wander through here and give you a firsthand account. :)
Good luck!
You could also take a look at the <a href="digitalcamera-hq.com/digita... T20</a>. Small and compact with equal MP rates. But it's a tad more expensive than it's Canon competitor.
I'd go with the A710IS. It has a Kids & Pets special preset. And you also have a nice video feature for shooting on the spot video moments.
That's the way I'd go.
The Pentax T20 ( digitalcamera-hq.com/digita... ) is not advertised as coming with that feature. To avoid blurry pictures from shaking, a monopod could be attached. I have found them in the camera sections of stores like Target and Walmart for around $20. They aren't as stable as a tri-pod, but they are a lot less cumbersome.

Really not a lot of differences between them aside from of course the increase in megapixels. Our reviews here don't show a manual mode for the T20, but I believe this is incorrect- just like the T10, this camera offers manual focus & exposure. The T20 has a higher ISO maximum (800 vs. T10's 400). Other than that... awfully similar camera. Even the skinny bodies are the same.
To be honest, I have no idea why the T20 retails for so much more.

If you don't need something as hardcore as ISO 800, I personally think that the Canon PowerShots all do well in low light situations- I own the PowerShot A85 ( digitalcamera-hq.com/digita... ) and have always been pleased with low light interior shots from it, although they do sometimes have a yellow tone that can be easily removed in Photoshop.
Based on specs alone, the Pentax T20 ( digitalcamera-hq.com/digita... ) is way ahead of the Sony W5, with a 7 megapixel sensor and 3.0-inch touchscreen LCD.
The Sony W5 ( digitalcamera-hq.com/digita... ) is a relatively simple ultracompact. If you want flashy, the T20 makes sense, but if you're not concerned with frills and just want to take simple photos, the W5 is a fine choice.
I don't think you'd have much trouble if you went with the N1. It's a great camera and cheaper than the N2.

This is an awesome camera. Its tough and lasts a long time—my friend has had one that is still in new condition for a few years.

Bought the T20 based on previous ownership of Optio's and the touchscreen.
However, battery life is a joke! Not even a second one will equal what one lasts in previous Optio's.
Additionally, focus time is as slow, or slower than, first generation digial cameras.
Definitly a product which should be recalled and exchanged - free of charge! - for something which lives up to the Pentax name.

My friend bout me this camera in march of 07 for my birthday and by june the zoom switch began to stick and in early july the switch completely fell off...i then had to return it and am now getting a panasonic lumix fz8k. while i owned the pentax i also had problems with it freezing and it also had terrible shutter lag so i had to retake a lot of my shots...

The camera works just fine. The 3 inch screen is sweet. There are 2 things I don't like about it. First, the zoom lever doesn't snatch back to position after I use it, so it sticks to where I put it. Second, when you look at ALL your pictures, it lags a little, you can't go through them quickly. BUT, I like it a lot.

The camera is light weight and has a touch screen for easy use. I appreciate the very large (3 inch) screen and the pictures are great! I also appreciate the extras, like framing a photo without losing the original photo. I very much dislike the weak battery, it lasts a very short time, I purchased an additional battery that lasts about five times as long and I keep both charged. I found another longer lasting battery for $12, $17 with s/h, not delivered yet.

My husband bought me Pentax T20 for Christmas and I loved it! Used it all the time and took some pretty good pictures from it. About 4 months later the lens got stuck in the out position. I took it back to the shop the next day and a week later received a phone call to say that apparently I had dropped it and they were not going to fix it. Given that there are no scratch marks, impact marks, witnesses to verify my claim and low and behold - I actually didn't do anything to it! I have been told that it won't be fixed under warranty and the quote they gave me is 2/3 of the purchase price. I have asked them to send it back unfixed and will purchase a new camera - any suggestions?

I took this pretty little thing back to the store. I refuse to get lost in the menu of my camera more than 3 times. User friendly is a must.

This camera looks like a gadget freak's dream come true. The 3" touch screen, ability to write on the photo with added stylus, the custom frames etc. made this exciting purchase. However, within the first week the lens got stuck in the out position. I reset by removing the battery. Happened again within the first 30 days and would not reset. Now Pentax claims I dropped the camera and will not fix it under manufacturer warranty. Wants me to pay another $185 to repair what was defective to begin with. So much for my new addition!

I have found this camera to be very fun to use with too many features to list however there is definitely one down fall, the battery does not nearly as long as I believe it should. But I guess over all a good camera.

I purchased this camera for my wife and had many camera's to choose from. I currently own a Cannon digital camera but after familiarizing myself with this camera will probably never use the Cannon again. This little camera has so many usable features that it is mind boggling. The quality of the photos is excellent, the software outstanding, the gimmicks unique. To say more would tax my ability to not be repetative. If there is a slight downfall, and frankly the camera is a bit to new to critize the battery life seems to require recharging a bit more frequently. Overall, just the best camera on the market.
