Editor's Review

An adventurous camera, the Pentax Optio W60 is waterproof up to 13 feet and can withstand temperatures as low as 14 degrees Fahrenheit. But the HD video mode and face recognition technology are attractive even if you aren't braving the elements. Combining rugged dependability and attractive features, the W60 is a model to keep in mind.

Pentax Optio W60 Reviews by Digital Camera-HQ Users

I would not buy a Pentax of any kind again. After 4 months the camera would not take pictures. I sent it in to repair at the Pentax service center. I waited approx 5 weeks and finally tried it out, but still had the same problem. Pentax would not send a replacement but told me to send it back for repair. If you go on vacation, make sure you have a backup! They said that I could get a replacement only after the third time. So this will be the second time and counting!

great for outdoors (dennis waltke — 03/02/2009)

I backpack regularly on the Appalachian Trail, and also kayak and love the ocean and fishing. My camera was accidently dropped over a breakwater and bounced 12 feet on rocks and into the ocean on Sanibel Island. Other than scratches, it was fine. I washed and dried it and was back in business. I do not scuba, but do swim and snorkel. This camera is fine for that. It is acceptable in focus and sharpness, but the ruggedness is its shining glory. I especially like the ultra close 2cm macro setting. A closeup of a fern with a backlight of sun showing through showed the veins of the leaf and was in good focus, allowing for a shallow depth of field. I have a Canon Rebel XT and a Pentax K100D and they are my more serious cameras, but when outdoor action is in mind this is the camera I use. Two of my friends were so impressed that they now also have one.

slow blurry over exsposed (dr — 02/17/2009)

I am a professional photographer.
Looking for something small for vacation snaps.
I can not believe how unreliable the images are terrible in low light many many many blurry photos in very good lighting. the exposure is always over except in perfect lighting. underwater is fine I don't think they thought this out. I could go on a minor thing that turns into a big on on the strap there is no way to tighten it to your wrist so make sure you bring elastic bands or make sure you bring your fuji 3meg camera as not only does it have a strap that stays to your wrist it also takes better photos!

I like it a lot (Ash — 12/30/2008)

I have a Nikon D80 which replaced my Nikon F90X (which replaced my Nikon F80 etc etc etc)...This camera is good. Excellent all purpose camera that is quick, fits in the pocket and can be taken to the beach without any worry from sand/sea/water - ie it does what it says on the tin. Pictures seem much better when viewed on the PC than on the camera itself. Optical 5x zoom.....v good

So far, I'm loving it! (Rebecca Wright — 11/19/2008)

Very easy to use with lots of fun features. Bought to take pix and video of my daughter horseback riding and at horse shows. Can be very dusty at the barn so the dustproof case is awesome. The videos were good, particularly considering how much the subject matter was moving. A real thrill for my daughter as she could see how well she was doing as well as her competition. Can't wait to try it at the beach or water parks where I've been reluctant to take cameras for fear of damage.

Dollar for Dollar a pleasant sleeper. Kudos (Hemingway Forbes — 10/23/2008)

Look. So many cameras. So little time. Unless you walk up into the best of the best and pay for it the Pentax Optio W60 is a good bet. The waterproof and dirt proof factor alone is fabulous for heavy travelers. Point and shoot or get down and personal with manual choices in your shots. Okay the professionals say the edges fall off? Okay crop the picture! Nothing is perfect but overall this is a pleasant sleeper that challenges the environment. Dollar for Dollar the more popular names should be paying attention.

waterproof wonder (schneider — 09/28/2008)

Great pictures, cropping, editing available in camera. I took it swimming with me and it even takes very clear videos in the water. Only serious downfall is the very short battery life and no optical viewfinder. The battery only lasts a day but if you have electricity handy every night to charge it, it's a great camera. My previous camera was a canon 570IS and this one just seems easier to handle and a better zoom. Simple buttons & placed in smart locations. Bit expensive but it's worth it as I seem to get caught in the rain often & now I don't have to worry.

A kitesurfer's sidekick (Jensie — 08/24/2008)

What a great invention! First time owner of these new waterproof cameras. I think it's great. Lots of new technology to offer, such as, smile capture and blink indicator on up to 30+ people per frame!! I used to own a sony, and this is the first time that I have turned to pentax. I couldn't be happier. Very simple to use, solid and durable... I can't wait to take it out on the water with me.

Abig joke from Pentax (raymon lund — 08/06/2008)

This camera is almost worst than my Nokia 6500 slide!
I personally think that this camera is intended to be used by kids and kids only, so they can take pictures in water, snow and sand.
For your own sake never by this toy of an camera.
