Pentax's WG-1 is the company's latest rugged camera, a line that has been hit or miss in the past. Last year's W90 was a hit for the most part, so this should be a solid tough-guy. Specs are pretty average for the class, with a 5x zoom, 720p HD video, and a 2.7-inch LCD. It's waterproof to a depth of 33ft and shockproof from 5 feet, as well as dustproof and freezeproof. For a slightly more exciting take on the WG-1, take a look at the WG-1 GPS, which -- you guessed it -- adds a GPS unit into the mix for geo-tagging abilities.

Hi, im looking to buy an all-weather compact to use with a mount flymount.com.au/product/ while windsurfing. I also would like to use it as a normal camera aswell so would like ok picture quality aswell.
After looking around the web, (including this site) at reviews, i'm thinking of getting the Casio G1 however have also considered the Pentax WG-1 and the Panasonic Lumix TS10. What would you reccomend? - I am on a budget.

We liked the Casio G1 a lot when we tested it, but we haven't had the chance to check out the WG-1 or TS10. All we can recommend, really, is the G1, which is a solid buy.

sony tx10 for superior pic quality. Pentax WG-1 for great x-tra features. (dustin — 04/05/2011)
If you want sheer pic quality go for the sony tx10. The sample shots on youtube are beautiful. But I'm personally going with pentax g-1. The features will keep me entertained. Seems like the same camera as the w90 but even cooler macro, more consistant pic quality, tougher, and gps if you get that one.

Yeah I've heard similar things about the TX10 image quality -- it's thanks to the sensor. That camera is more like an ultracompact that can take a little roughhousing, whereas the WG-1 is a more traditional indestructible model.
