The Samsung SL600 is a middle-of-the-road point-and-shoot that could sell a ton of units if its cheap enough. Nothing fancy here, a camera that takes decent pictures (though the 5x optical zoom is above average). We can't see anything that really separates it from the huge pack of nearly identical cameras from other manufacturers, but we can say that we've generally received positive user comments about Samsung's budget-minded SL series.

This is the best little camera for the money! This camera was purchased a day before my trip to Hawaii, with 4 gig card. It never failed me once, charged the battery twice in 879 pictures. It traveled in motorcycle saddle bags, on the airplane, in the rental jeep, up the volcano, thru the beaches and miles of hiking! A+++ camera. Video camera shoots great videos. Would recommend it to anyone. Easy to use!!!

I loved it until it got black lines on the screen which spread. so i took it back to walmart with in 20 days and got a new one, I have had 2 wks and the screen is getting black spots..I guess Ill take t it up with samsung this time.

If I was looking for an HD TV, I'd be getting a Samsung. But Cameras have always been an "also made" category and they rarely are at the top of the heap. If you want a good camera in that price range, I'd be looking at the Nikon L22.

this is my first digital camera and i have been VERY careful with it. i am seeing a dark horizontal stripe develop across the screen. it is less than a week old. sounds like this is a fairly common problem, i think i will change brands when i exchange it.

Yeah, that's a good idea. You could try updating the firmware, but with less than a week on it, take it back. And fast.

Hi there is a black mark or something on my LCD screen. It is a brand new camera, only a week old, and I haven't even dropped it. The mark worries me because I believe it has grown in size within the past day.

Try resetting the camera. If it persists, it may be a dead pixel or even a failing CCD happening. Take the camera back.

I am on my second camera with the same thing happening. The black pixel did grow and well as multiply to three more areas. I took it back to the store which did me a favor by exchanging it, even though I did not have the box anymore and it was a few days outside the exchange period. Now, three weeks into my second camera and a spot has appeared.

I to am on my second camera, I love the pictures it takes but it seems the screen last about 3 months and starts getting "dead spots on the screen. I'm sending this one in Monday.

I just purchased this camera because a Sony camera (comparable in price) that I had that was only a month old did the same thing. I returned it to the store and the clerk said that particular camera is no longer sold due to the problem.
Will be cautious to see if this camera has the same thing happen. From previous comments it seems to be an issue too.

This has happen to mine as well after only having it for a feww days. I exchanged it and it happened again to my second one as well.

it is a very simple, easy-to-use camera, and is inexpensive, but it refuses to take clear pictures of close up things like small mechanisms. And that's most of what it will be doing, recording the state of various fiddly bits. it focuses just fine, but the ISO speed isn't enough to cope with my shaky hand.

Well, Macro : 5cm~80cm is pretty close. But remember that when you're shooting something so close, any slight movement is magnified, so that's why you need a tripod or at least a monopod, to handle the camera shake.

Never Takes Pictures When I Want

So i was playing around with the camera and trying different types of ways to take pictures and since then....it hasn't taken pictures when i want to. I have to push the button five or more times for it to take a picture. Its very unpredictable.
Does anyone know how to reset the settings to factory settings to this camera. It used to work until i messed with the settings and a aregular reset on the camera doesn't work. :)
