Editors' Comments
The SL605 is marketed as a "durable" camera, which dubious at best, a heap of crap at worst. True ruggedized or durable cameras are shockproof and should at least be able to survive a fall off of a table. The SL605 is simply a boring point-and-shoot with a metal plate on the front and some scratch-resistant coating. So let there be no confusion -- this is NOT a truly durable camera in the vein of the Casio G1, Olympus TOUGH series, or Panasonic TX1/TX2. Image quality has so far proven to fall short of average too.

I aggree. This camera is a peice of crap. I should have read this before I bought it. It takes bad pictures- they are all very blurry! And the night button is in such a bad spot that you are constantly hitting it accidentally and so many pictures end up being crappy. Save your money!

Not that I'm making excuses for the camera, I believe you, but often these problems crop up due to unrealistic expectations (like expecting a tiny flash to light up something 20 feet away), being new to the camera and not reading the manual completely. And what you can do to mitigate the focus issue is to pre-focus first. This is where you put your subject in the middle, press the shutter button half way to lock in the focus and then recompose before pressing the shutter the rest of the way. This will guarantee that your subject is properly focused.

Don't Drop It!
(Burton — 07/06/2010)
My daughter dropped this camera inside a case ... and the LCD broke. It is definitely not a durable camera. Pictures, were not bad for an inexpensive digital.
