Hey! You should know that Sony has released a newer version of this product: the Sony Alpha A580.
Sony Alpha A500
Editor's Review
Sony's Alpha-series A500 is another offering to the consumer dSLR market, in the vein of the Nikon D5000 and Canon T1i. It gets less recognition than either of these heavy hitters, probably because the brand name carries a connotation of mass-production and rampant consumerism rather than the "pedigree" of its competitors. Regardless, this performs admirably well at high ISO (up to 12800) for pretty slick low-light images. Worth a look, for sure.

Bargain of the Recession ! (Michael McGrath — 04/28/2010)
I don't see how 12500 ISO is needed in portraiture, surely a Sony Alpha 100 is all that is required by a professional photographer - if he or she is a professional ! The Alpha 100 would last a good year or more on constant heavy duty service, if less you're covered by guarantee ! And that way you can shop around from year to year, buying such cameras, over a period of a decade before you would spend all that money on ONE Nikon D700 that will be well outdated, if not well broken, in ten year's time .
I remember when I produced gorgeous wedding albums years ago with a Spotmatic + Takumar with a Praktika ( but that had an Zeiss ! ) as backup .
Today I use Bronica and Mamiya for studio and weddings with the Fuji S2 Pro and Sony Alpha 230 to shoot all the skintones/candids -
And I have the Bride and the Bridegroom lying opposite ways on the hotel bed to keep up with all the " Avant Grade Madness " !!!
I also try to live with the Happy Couple for a month before their wedding so we can all three get to know each other and become great , even loving, friends so I can shoot their wedding even better, hehehe .
Sony Alpha 230 with its fab new DT 18-55 SAM, all the camera you will ever need , for 324 Euro down the road - Bargain of the Decade, Superb :-)
Look a Pro just moves in and out , Shoots with whatever comes to hand, Delivers, gets paid - all in a couple of hours .
My Fuji S2 Pro is still going strong ( the built-in flash doesn't work andymore but I never wanted that anyway ! ) taking the very best of portraits , still beating top Nikons and top Canons hands down .
Look a Sony Alpha 230 with that fabulous DT 18-55 kit kens is all you'll ever need , going down the road right now for 324 Euro, the Bargain of the Recession .
And don't start in about that 230 Grip please , not again, you don't shoot masterpieces with a Grip !
