Sony CyberShot DSC-N1 Comments & Questions (write your own!)
But understand that the average cost of a camera repair is around $180. As such, it may cost more to repair than it is really worth. The rule of thumb is that if the estimate for repair is north of 50% what you paid for it, you're better off taking that money and buying a newer and upgraded model.
But get the estimate first so you know what you're getting into.
I'd also clean your battery contacts with a pencil eraser. It may be that they are dirty and preventing contact.
I would also check your contacts. They may be smudged and as such, need to be cleaned. A pencil eraser will do the trick. Finally, if you live in an area where it's humid or there's rainy, the camera may have condensation that is preventing it from turning on. Try sticking it into a ziplock bag with a cup of uncooked rice for a few days. The rice will act as a dessicant to draw out any moisture.
lastly, again, at 4 years old, it may just need a servicing. Unfortunately, without warranty coverage the average cost of a camera repair is around $180. As such, it may cost more to repair than it is really worth. The rule of thumb is that if the estimate for repair is north of 50% what you paid for it, you're better off taking that money and buying a newer and upgraded model.
You might have the settings moved around a bit causing the shutter to stay open longer. I would change your ISO settings to 800. You might also try using the AF illuminator option (page 64 of the user manual ( docs.sony.com/release/DSCN1... )). It will help get some fill light in darker situations. Page 12 of the manual also outlines how you can futher adjust the camera to allow more light in.
If you still have issues after trying these things, you may need to contact Sony Customer Care ( sonystyle.com/webapp/wcs/st... ). Good luck.

These did not solve my problem, but, my out of focus pictures are much brighter! Plus I learned a lot about my camera. I will take this to Sony support feeling much better having tried what I could before hand. Your help is much appreciated.

Glad we could help, and good luck with your camera. Please come back with any more questions or issues.

Thanks in advance

First, with a cable:
Your camera should have come with a cable to connect it to your computer. Assuming it did and assuming your computer has an available USB port, do this: With the camera turned off connect the cable to it and plug it into the computer's USB port. Turn the camera on and wait a moment. Your computer should announce a new device attached... maybe it will add a link or shortcut on the Desktop. If you are using Windows then it will probably announce the new device and give you options on what to do with it. If you get that option window, choose to explore or browse the folder. You can then select the images and move them to where you want on your computer. If you use Windows and you do not get a list of options, then run Explorer and browse 'my computer', where it lists your 'C' drive and your CD-ROM drives... there should be a new removable drive listed there, probably with the highest letter value (Like 'E' or 'F' or higher)... click on it and you can get your images and move them to where you want.
If you use a Mac, it should add an icon on the desktop linking to the camera. If you use Linux, it should either add a icon on the desktop or automatically open the camera's directory and show you the files, or both.
Second, no cable:
If your camera does not have a cable (a good computer store will have one which will fit, take the camera with you), do the following:
Make sure there is a memory card inserted in your camera and turn it on. Go to the setup or options menu and search around for an option named 'Copy' or something of that nature. Many cameras have the option to copy from the internal memory to the card listed in the setup menu. After the images are copied to the card, use the card on your computer and make sure you got all of the images copied. Then you can delete the images on the camera's internal memory or format it.
Hope this makes sense. Good luck.
If you've tried new batteries and got no response, there's not really any other option than to send it in for service to the Sony repair department. Since you bought it over a year ago, your warranty is no doubt expired, meaning a repair will probably cost you a hefty chunk of change. Bad news, I'm afraid. :[
You can reach the service department here ( eservice.sony.com/webrma/we... ).
Good luck!
Hope it continues to work for you.
Roughly, you use the ' On Screen Key ' button to access the menu.
From there you select the Setup function, go to Setup 2 and you will be given an option to turn the Beep off.
If you have difficulties, refer to your copy of the Manual, or download one from Sony Website and enter ' beep ' under the search function - the icon showing a pair of binoculars.
Alternatively, go straight to page 71 and you will find the answer.

I got a repair est. for a sony dscn2 repair for the back lcd screen for 250.00 from precision camera in conn. the camera was 318 new on amazon.
The Sony cameras you're thinking of are the N1 ( digitalcamera-hq.com/digita... ) and N2 ( digitalcamera-hq.com/digita... ), both of which have 3.0" touch screen LCDs. They're both very good cameras, particularly as "party cameras" (i.e., they're small and ultraportable, and take very good, well-exposed night shots with flash). I'd recommend them highly if that's the sort of camera you're looking for. Particularly the N2.
Hope this helps!
Then go to the internet, download and install a photo image recovery software, Digital Photo Recovery or Zero Assumption digital image recovery will do for a start.
Connect your camera to the computer, or better still use a card reader to allow the computer to have access to your memory card.
The software will be able to recover the pictures.
Zero Assumption also provide a free tutorial for data recovery at
z-a-recovery.com/demo-ir.ht...
You can actually use special filters ( cgi.ebay.com/58mm-ROTATING-... ) to get that effect. Unfortunately, your camera does not have an adapter available to put these filters on. If you buy one, you could hold it in front of your lens for the effect, but you might have mixed results. Good luck.
Andrew
Here's the thing: you can of course get this professionally repaired, I would at the very least call and price repairs. I'm not recommending 'home repairs' or anything that might void your warranty. But having said that, there are a few things you can try at home too that might fix it.
photographers.co.uk/html/ph... that website carefully. They are talking about a different camera and a specific error message, so not all of those tips will apply to you. But, about three-quarters of the way down the page one user mentions the 'turn off then on again' message you are getting- and these are all basically the same problem, the Sony lens error. A combination of gentle pressure on the lens, a few thumps on the bottom of the camera, and perhaps a few good blows (either breath or compressed air) into the area around the lens may correct the problem.
Read the suggestions on that site, be gentle with the camera and try a few of them out, and let me know if any of that helps at all.
Pete Milla
I just fixed my sony that had the same problem.
Thank you very much for the advice it was exactly what I needed………..
Any how I found a few web site that will fix it if I ship and pay a flat rate of about $120. The camera was $250 - so I guess it's worth it if banging and tweezing doesn't work. If I have to get a new lense - I'll send for repair. (avrepair.com had some good testimonials).
I was being far too gentle with the camera initially - and why not, they're not cheap! But it really does need a firm bang to get the thing moving.
... Ok, an even harder jolt on a harder surface has shifted it again. This time I turned the camera on its side. I am getting worried at how hard I'm having to bang this thing. But it's still working at least.
Update: A day later and the mechanism seems fine after the last jolt. Zoom is working and (touch wood) all seems ok. Scary stuff though!!
Still buying a new (non-Sony) camera, as the Sony is gigantic and slow-ish compared to what is out there today, but happy that I can keep this one as back-up a while longer!
However, downside is that over time, they will lose their ability to charge. On the order of approximately 20% capacity per year in average storage temperatures. The higher the temperature, the shorter the lifespan.
Please I really need an answer also, I can't decide which one to buy.
I've read a lot of comments and N1 people seem to give a lot of credit :\
will be appreciated.. so much! tnx...
If I was able to make my choice again I wouldn't buy this camera at all. It's nice and easy to operate the touchsceen but while in playback mode it's a pain in the ass because you're unable to see your images in their full splendor cause the large semi-translucent buttons overlay large portions of the image. And even though you can remove the virtual buttons by pressing the Touchscreen button, you then lose yor ability to change to another image.
Another thing I don't like of this camera is that the N2's LCD monitor atracts a lot of powder and ends up with a lot of fingertips, which are difficult to wipe off.
So my advice to anyone who is planning on buying a touchsceen camera (N1, N2 or T50) is to make another smart election !!
Also, regarding the image stabilization, you're correct, we discussed this in <a href="digitalcamera-hq.com/digita... thread linked to this camera</a>- although 99% of reviews out there (including this site) mention Steady Shot, according to Sony's website, this camera does not have it. Strangely enough, I spent quite a bit of time with this camera awhile back (knowing someone who owned it) and I could have sworn that it had stabilization, so it is weird that everyone says that it does when apparently... it doesn't.
'Megapixels aren't everything'- I agree with that statement completely, but for a bit extra I will lean towards the extra megapixels of the N2 over the N1 because Iif I'm buying the camera anyhow (and I would, since I like the N2 better in general) I might as well invest a few extra bucks. I also personally like this camera's image quality better than that of the cameras you mentioned which do have other features that this one might not- to me image quality is high up there in terms of the most important features of the camera, and that's what I look at first.
That's why I recommended the N2, but if it doesn't suit you you should definitely consider exchanging it- if you just bought it you should be able to do so without losing any cash. Some places are awesome about it and will even give you cash back, not just exchanges. Good luck.
pls help me on this, coz im planning to buy n1 or n2...one more thing which is cheaper, and can anyone give a a price......thnks again...
its almost like a dslr
because you control the shutter speed, aperature, ISO, white balance, and pretty much everything you control on a dslr
and people who are complaining about image stabilization
the reason other cameras need an image stabilizer is because
the camera usually has to resort to lower shutter speeds and low f-stop to capture everyday pictures
but if you know how to adjust the shutter speed, aperture, ISO
then this is the PERFECT camera for you
I bought both the N1 and N2 (because my N1 was dropped)
and the N2 has everything the N1 has except one more higher ISO setting and more megapixels
and ISO means the quality of the image
the lower an ISO (ex: 100) the better quality image you are going to have
but the darker the image is going to be
and higher the ISO (1600) and the image will have worse quality but very light
so a good middle is usually around 400
This camera should be fine with both types of computers. In fact, it might even be easier to use with a MAC.
Andrew
Yes, night option sets the exposure, iso and such things to ensure that the photo comes out well.
Image stabilization internally takes more than one pic at the same time and saves the one with the least blur.
I think the Sony DSC-T30 has both night mode(which most cameras have) and the anit-shake.
That delay from when the button is pushed to when the shot is taken is called shutter lag. Regardless of what camera you buy, here's a good trick: before you're ready to actually take the shot, push the shutter button halfway down. The photo will frame (you'll probably see some colored squares and hear a noise) but no picture will take. Then when you're ready (when the kids are posed, etc.) push the button all the way down. This reduces shutter lag to fractions of a second since it's that framing that takes up most of the time.
A good camera for you might be the Sony Cybershot DSC N1 ( digitalcamera-hq.com/digita... ). It's got one of the faster shutter lag times around (about .3 seconds!) and it also has a fast shot-to-shot time of just over a second, so once you take a shot you're almost immediately able to take another one. Keep in mind that all these times slow down when using flash, but still this camera is nice and speedy. Also, it has a red-eye reduction mode that might help you.
The [urldigitalcamera-hq.com/digita... a710[/url] has both an optical viewfinder and a LCD for framing up your shoot plus this is a great camera with a traditional feel to it which seems to be what you are looking for. It takes great quality stills. Top of the line for this price range too.
Thanks,
In order to do the research on this, a really good thing to do is go to google.com and type in the name of the camera you're considering plus the words "shutter lag time." Although they aren't written in stone, many reviewers have clocked the speeds of these cameras and published the results, and you can find some good info on what cameras are considered fast vs. which ones are on the slow end.
Of course reviews aren't always reliable, but if you read a few different ones and they say the same thing you can get a good idea of the camera's real performance.
In regards to your question, in order to get NO shutter lag time you'd be looking at a very expensive camera- the DSLRs have the shortest lag times, but they are thousands of dollars and probably not what you want. In terms of the point and shoots, the Cybershot DSC S90 ( digitalcamera-hq.com/digita... ) and DSC N1 ( digitalcamera-hq.com/digita... ) are good places to start. Many of the Kodak Easyshares also have quick operation.
One more tip: when taking a photo, press the shutter button down halfway before you actually take it. This will cause the camera to frame the shot. Then, when you're ready, push the button the rest of the way. This reduces shutter lag on almost any camera to fractions of a second because it is that framing which takes up most of the time and makes the lag time so long.
Hope that helps!
But really if you have a strong feeling towards the James Bondness of the T30 it does takes comparable images to the N1 so it really comes down to body style.
Andrew

Can you buy online? If so, <a href="etronics.com/planding.asp?d... is the charger</a> for sale, and this company ships overseas. You just have to check "international order" while you're checking out.
However, I am ignorant and don't know if this will work with Japanese power outlets. =) So hopefully you know.

The DSC-N1 has a bunch of cool features to but the w-100 is higher quality overall in my opinion.
good luck
Ciao
I don't think you'd have much trouble if you went with the N1. It's a great camera and cheaper than the N2.

always curious as to what kind of camera, its sleek design and touch screen are second to none. The pictures are very clear and full of color, I am a big time scrapbooker and take full advantage of the "paint feature" for valentines or st.patricks day, christmas it adds the extra flare to photos. Also I like the fact that I have never seen anyone with this camera and I,ve never seen anyone have a better camera, I feel special!

I absolutely love this camera! I got it as a gift from my boyfriend in November 2006. The only thing that I can think of that I don't like about the camera is how dirty the touch screen gets- but that is nothing at all! I have a cleaning kit that I keep with it! Seriously- I recommend this camera to everyone! I love it!

After years of owning Olympus digital camera's my husband bought the Sony for me, because of the pixel size and the relative size. At first I was not much of a camera buff, but after using the first time, I got hooked on the ease of operation and the great quality pictures my camera takes. Off course the touch screen is a great addition, not only because the size, but the ability to just touch. I still haven't figured out all the great features, but i learn a little more each time I use it, which is quite frequent, since I am a Real Estate Agent and now use ot to take pictures on the job.

I have to admit, prior to buying this camera I refused to invest any significant amount in electronics in the belief the same could be done with a regular camera. But once I decided to go for a digital camera, I decided to go for the best. The DSC-N1 has not disappointed at all.
Since buying this little camera I have taken it all over to a variety of venues and places. Always able to fit in a pocket, always living up to the environment making sure I get the best pictures (or movies).
If you like programming your camera for every shot, there are enough options to please - if not, she works all by herself as well.
The large touchscreen is always a treat, both when taking pics or when reviewing pictures. It's guaranteed to turn heads when slipping out you camera all relaxed and making quick shots whilst others are still fiddling with some tripod.

n1 is very qualitat cybershot. But the lcd panel can have very easly damege problems. For example when i using it in a cave some stones fall down. And the very small pieces (like sand) of this rock comes to the lcd panel. Now i have a little damage on my lcd screen proctertor part. The sony service said me, that we couldn't change this panel. So it is working now but the damage is makes little headece in me.

This is the best and easiest camera I have ever used in my life and the nicest.
I have never been very good with cameras at all and not to good with electronics until my husband found me this camera. If you can read words rather than pictures like me than this is certainly the camera for you.
takes great pictures too!
I have nothing bad to say about this camera at all.

I bought this camera eight weeks ago, and couldn't be happier with it. I do not regret spending way more than I had budgeted for a camera- when I tried it I just had to have THIS one!!! At the same time I purchased a higher quality multi-purpose printer. Let me tell you guys- especially Moms- this camera has saved my kid's unfinished memory (Scrap) books from the dusty closet!! I'm adding pictures all the time- way better that any of our past 35mm photos. They are so clear and sharp it is unreal. Also, I have found that I use the camera itself for photo sharing on the go because the screen is big enough to actually SEE the saved pictures, and I keep the camera with me at all times. It is such a "tote-able" size. Also, with 8 megapixels, I have enlarged pictures to 8.5x11, particularly band & football games where you can barely see the kids in the small ones, and there is NO noticeable distortion. You can identify everyone. They look like a pro took them- not someone's mom! Just two final words: BUY IT!

I am a computer consultant with lots of years with digital cameras and technology. I went to Ireland in May 2006 and wanted a new more compact digital camera. I shopped around and tried many this one you WILL be happy with. It uses the same memory as a PS2 it is easy to find. I purchased a 1GB memory stick which would be a good idea especially if you want to take a lot of pictures AND videos! It is easy to use and one thing that I liked about it was the extremely reduced delay that occurs with all digital cameras. The only thing that could be improved on this camera is the zoom. Which is sufficient but it would be great to get a 10x zoom on it. I took videos of dragracing and they came out great!

I'm a camera freak. Recently bought the N1, its awesome. Picture quality is great, movie is ok not bad. Looks are great especially with the wide 3" view, very good for album view. I've taken more than 1000 pics from VGA to 8M they are marvellous.

I do not own a DSC-N1, but do have a Sony Cybershot DSC-W1 and it is a great camera!!! But i am looking to upgrade it for a DSC-N1, 8.1 Mega Pixel. My question is to anyone who owns a DSC-W1 I would like to know which digital camera is better, the DSC-W1 or the DSC-N1

This is my 3rd Sony camera (Had the Sony F-707 & F-717) and this is an excellent, easy to use camera. My 5 yr old daughter learned how to operate it after the 1st day including the stunning slideshow feature it has. I really love the large touch screen and how you can download your music to the camera for playback during the slideshows. This camera is stunning to look as well with it's metal casing and sleek lines. Great Buy!!

I read a lot of reviews about this camera before buying it and I have to say that for the people who complain about this model, well, geez, it's just an electronic device what do you expect it to do?? It has a nice big 3" touch screen. It takes pictures quick enough for a normal situation; if you want a motordrive, get a film camera! The battery life is wonderful; the use of it is so easy since there are very few buttons on the camera; all vital info for changing flash, red eye, mode, etc., is on the touch screen and very simply laid out. One complaint I read about from others is there is no place for the stylus..... no place? People, try reading the instructions that come with this camera.. it clearly tells you where the stylus goes: it easily attaches to the carry strap but does not easily come off so you won't lose it. You use the stylus very easily why it is attached to the strap. And no big deal if you use fingers... in some reviews I see that people freak over smudges on the screen... well, wipe them off after use!! What's the big deal? Are people so lazy that not only do they need a motordrive speed digital camera for every day use, but want one self cleaning too? Anyway, I'm here to say that this camera is excellent; it goes with me everywhere and traveled lately, no problems and it fits perfectly on my tri-pod for the regular film camera so I can use the self timer...and immediately view the picture on that lovely big screen so I can see whether I need to retake the picture or adjust the scene or even use the paint program to draw some funny things directly onto the screen! So many choices and I'm more than pleased. My friends and fmaily who have seen my camera were impressed with the large screen and ease of use since they used it to take pictures of me...and strangers have used it too with no problems.

I just got my new sony N1 (my previous one was a sony T1). I had read many reviews of it on line, and looked at pictures, yet one thing which was a big suprise to me was the size of this camera. I was expecting something about the size of my old one, possibly a little smaller, and when I saw this one I almost chose the T9 instead, for size. I am really glad I didn't. As someone who loves gadgets, this is the ultimate toy. I love the album feature, I love the slide shows, and I love the paint application. I also like to have something slightly different, which makes this camera perfect. When I got my T1 right after it came out, I got lots of compliments on it. Nowadays though, it seems that everyone and his brother have small, big-screened cameras. This camera is a new twist on the digital photography scene.
Another thing about the N1 is image quality. I am still fiddling around with the manual settings, but I am getting great images on auto. I have definitely see an upgrade in image quality from my old T1.
The only drawback of this camera, other than it's size, is that it is not as easy to use as some other cameras. For me, it's not a problem, because I am good at these kinds of things. My mom has not managed to figure out how to use it though.
Basically, I think this is an unbelievable camera, but not for those un-technological people who's main priority is ease of use.

Not sure about everybody else, but since I bought this camera, it has given me nothing but problems. I was one of the first to buy this camera from Circuit City in Dec. 2005. (Circuit city didn't even have it in stores yet, they shipped it to me from their warehouse).
I bought this camera as an "upgrade" to my Sony 5 megapixel from 2 years ago. (which, by the way, is an awesome camera!!)
1) My DSC-N1 camera could never focus on objects closer than 3 feet. (Everything was always fuzzy and grainy).
2) After about 5 months, the flash began to over power all the images. Eventually, the white flash was all that you were seeing in the picture.
...and without the flash, the images were too dark.
I called Sony direct, and they couldn't figure it out...
and had never heard of this problem.
So, since it was still under the 1 year manufacturer warantee, I sent it in for authorized repair.
The camera repair facility in CT, had to order internal parts, and I got the camera back after 4 weeks. (It took them a week after they received the camera, just to log the camera into their system. In other words, don't spend $24 to overnight a camera to be repaired under warrantee.)
The camera still can't focus under 3 feet, after the repair.
(but they did fix the flash problem).
I'm going to return this camera today!!
(I bought the Circuit City 2 year protection plan, and I'm going to swap this camera out for a different model).
I'm still going to buy another "Sony",
hopefully, this was just a DSC-N1 lemon!!
Besides the focus and flash problem,
this was a very nice camera with great features.
(just wish they had added the normal 1/4" viewing window,
in addition to the 3" touchscreen).

Bought it 4 months ago, suposedly new in box, unable to use it until June-11th, got 8 pictures taken then repeatedly stated to turn camera on then off again. Taken in for service, they claimed I dropped it even though out of box for 5 minutes. no signs of damage anywhere even stickers and labels still on it. Warranty refused as they claimd they found scrape inside internal lens. Executive to president Carolyn Hayes refused to honor warranty and states that I am responsible for the damage, and offered me 30% off of another sony product. I own over $30,000 in Sony products and will never again buy a Sony product or any of their affiliated sponsors. Ms Hayes you may be the pexecutive to the president, but you no nothing about buisness. I will continue this in court.

I have to other camera's and this one is something speical. The other two both exlim are ok camera's but this one smokes the competion. It has 8 megapixels which is extremly high. Even though it has 3x optial zoom it has 6x digital zoom. The megapixes are so great they come out perfect in 6x optical zoom. It might not look good when taking it but when viewing it is fantastic. If you want a basic yet hightec camera this is the one for you!

Stunning picture quality, besting various Canon and Olympus compacts I own. Touch screen is easy to use, works well, and is bright enough even in sunlight. Love the photoalbum feature. Fun little camera and powerful enough to please all but a professional.

I have owned 3 Sony cameras. This is the most fun and takes excellent pictures. I miss the view finder. I replaced the stylus that came with it. I got a PDA stylus & use it for autographs from celebrities. Have original pictures and autographs as well. Slide show is excellent and I can download my music into the camera for perfect shows. While this little gem is not for everyone it is great to take along on special outings. Fun Camera.

I took my new N1 on a trip and just loved it. sony should start paying me...everyone who looked at that huge screen immediately said they wanted it. pictures were just great. ok little problems trying to focus on tiny songbirds..cant see them in the screen so just I had to just shoot blindly. I also learned what purple fringing means which I've read about in camera reviews..it means when i took picture in a cave looking out at sunlight there's a purple fringe where the bright light hits the edge of the cave...but I still liked the picture. Overall the pics were fabulous and the enjoyment of them hugely enhanced by that enormous screen. the battery stood up incredibly well; a day's shooting of maybe 50 pictures didn't budge the battery off of full. I found if you use the play back and slide show features a lot, it drains the battery much more quickly...so I didn't use that during the trip. I loved having something so small I could just tuck it in a pocket when I went horseback riding or canoeing and didn't have to sling a camera case around my neck. I got stunning close ups of tropical flowers and professional-looking sunset pictures, as well as lots of great shots of jungle scenery and mayan ruins. Looking at the shots other people got in the cave I could tell I was getting the best pictures..I could really open up the camera thingy to let in light without blinding the scene with a flash. I played around with the other camera adjustment and got some lovely waterfall effects. For someone who really doesn't know photography stuff, I got wonderful pictures.

I've read all the reviews so far and I just want to tell you that this camera can provide everything you need in every situation. You can't say bad things about something like slow response or i can't find the picture etc... You have more than 100 pages of "how to use", so please first read it then try it! I've took photos with more than 20 different types of digital cameras (EOS 60D included) and I really can tell you that this model of Sony is one of the best compact digital cameras ever put on market... BUY it if you need everyday adventure camera ;-)

The 8 megapixel compact market is heating up. Sony N1, nikon coolpix p4, panasonic lumix lx1 and many more. Using this for about a month now. I think in overall performance this is the leader at the moment.
Limited manuall controls, giant 3 inch LCD and autofocus capability in low light conditions are the main positive aspects I noticed so far.

A few years ago, we'd pass around a stack of prints to show people our photos. Now, most digital pictures are rarely looked at, because no one's come out with a really handy hand-held digital viewer. But now, with a bright 3 inch LCD screen, the camera IS the viewer, no additional hardware to buy.
The touch-screen controls are a real next-gen feature. The other big plus is having ISO 800 capability, which allows good, warm-looking indoor shots without the blown-out look of a flash picture. Non-flash shots have a bit of a color cast, but improve somewhat when set for "incadescent lighting"—overall, though, I think that's a small price to pay.
When used, this camera's flash is heartier than we're used to on digital cameras. And yes, the LCD is dark in low lighting, but much better in Program mode. There is, however, background noise when videos are played back at higher volumes, and that's a bit annoying, but not fatal.
If you're looking for a camera, pick up this one (or perhaps any one with a 3 inch screen), and it'll be hard to choose a model with anything smaller.

I have owned the DSC-N1 for about 3 months. It is super easy to use and takes GREAT pictures. It is the perfect camera for the person who wants to have a camera available for lots of uses. The large screen makes it easy to see the subject and the programming menu's are intuitive. Indoor pictures are as clear and bright as those taken outdoors in full sun. What more could an amateur picture taker want? If you are thinking of purchasing a camera that will last a long time and take great pictures .... this is the one. I also own the DSC-T1 and plan to sell it now that I have the N-1. Although both take great pictures, the N-1 is a much better camera.

Like most things you need time to get used to, the sony N1 touch screen is novel and a gem to use, its menu system once understood are a breeze and becomes second nature. The 3" LCD doubles up as Front Page style Album viewer with music, you can also download your own tracks, making sharing your pictures with friends and family enjoyable," no need of PC or TV, it also allow you to modify and draw on your pictures with a supplied stylus which can be attached to the wrist strap.
As you would expect from Sony the build quality is top noach. 8.1 Mega Pixel, Sony once again is pushing the boundary for a compact camera coupled with the renowned Carl Ziess lens from Germany you are sure to take sharp, bright and vivid pictures each and everytime.
I would highly reccommed the CyberShot DSC-N1

I can't understand why this web site put in "sellected reviews" only the two reviews with low raitings (when practically all of the users said that N1 is almost perfect). This page is not seriuos. The Camera is perfect.

i love this camera. i had a sony p-12 which was stolen and replaced it with a sony p-200 as i believed it would be similar but better than my p-12. it was good in bight daylight but i was so disappointed with night shots and indoor shots, so i returned it to retailer who used strong language when he commented on the results from this camera, so i got the dsc n1 and i love it it is so funky and photo are great. i woke up early this morning and could not wait to play with it.

Extremely impressed with this camera. Loads fast, lot of features-some of them silly. Being able to do some very basic picture editing on the camera is a great feature. 8.1 megapixels is awesome, unless you're trying to figure out what molecules make up your dog's hair, this will give you all the detail you need.

I returned a Nikon Coolpix P1 after using it for 2 weeks. The sony was on my mind each day. I have a Mavica CD and was missing Sony and their easy to use and quality rendering products. This camera rocks the socks off the competition. It's only drawback is the higher price...$200CAN more than Coolpix P1. Still am happy to pay the extra...Photoalbum rocks as well..

I was given a Cybershot CSC N1 as a Christmas present and at first sight was a bit overawed by the technology. However, it wasn't at all complicated and is so simple to use with the on screen menu. I am absolutely delighted with it! It is neat, light and goes everywhere with me in my handbag or pocket, so I am never without it. The battery life is good and with the 1 gb memory stick, bought as an extra, I don't have to worry about it running out of steam. I would highly recommend this little box of tricks!
One minor gripe - my camera's internal battery hasn't yet charged so I have to set the date/time every time I reinsert the rechargable battery. This should be solved by buying the AC Adaptor, an additional accessory, but finding a supplier hasn't been easy. I'm surprised Sony didn't supply this as standard.

My wife and I purchased this camera because we finally needed to get a good digital camera with havving a baby on the way. Eventhought the camera is somewhat small and compact we really like the amount of technology it offers. We also own a sony grand wega widescreen and doing slide shows with this camera with HDTV or VEGA is awesome, an added bonus for us when our baby gets here!!!!!Love every bit of this power packed little camera.

I sell cameras at Best Buy and after playing with the T-7 for months, I can honestly tell you that this camera out performs the T-7 greatly! Its autofocus and flash recharge time are way faster. The image quality is excelent, you have 3x optical zoom, and with 8 mp picture means you can use 5x digital zoom and still have a great 8 by 10 picture. Making this camera capable of a 15x zoom.

I got this camera for christmas and i have not stopped playing with it since. Takes amazing shots day and night. for night shots sometimes you have to make flash adjustments, such as slow flash in order to get back grounds. I took it to Jamaica and the beach pictures are amazing and clear. The 3" screen was the talk of the town, viewing pics, video and slide shows is like watching a small tv. The touch screen is extremely handy and simple to use. At night you can see what you are doing and adjusting. The battery life is great and i absolutely love the album capabilities. I just hook it up to a tv and i can show people a terrific slide show with music and special effects, which takes about 10 seconds to set up. Also i am very happy that a marine pack is available for this camera, which means i can take it safely under water and use it for diving, snorkelling or just simply around pools and the beach. So far there is not one thing that i don't like about the camera and all this power and technology in such a small pocketable camera is simply amazing, and i don't think i'll need to upgrade for many many years.

I returned this camera a week after I got it. After taking it to watch my daughter's ice skating. There and at home I couldn't get the picture when I pushed the button. Maybe I'm stupid and someone can explain it to me, but even the store couldn't. They said the auto focus had to "refocus" even after I had held the button half way down first to focus. I read the owner's manual and adjusted everything I could, no luck here.
I loved the screen, and very menu friendly, but I couldn't live with the slow response time or blurry pictures. I paid the difference and got a Rebel XT and I don't regret it.

I've tested quite a few of Sony's consumer digital cameras (through my profession) and I was thrilled to receive the N1 as a Christmas gift from my family. The high points: internal memory (although you'll need a Memory Stick Duo to take advantage of 8.1 MPX); large touch-screen, and (finally) a logical interface. I'll need to experiment a bit to get the kind of clarity and vibrancy I've been accustomed to from Sony. But to be fair, I've been shooting with the flash in very dimly lit rooms so far. Can't wait for daylight. I highly recommend.

It is insignificant to carry in a pocket. It shoots high enough quality to crop the heck out of photos and still have good quality. It shoots good video with good sound recording so now you have your video camera with you in the same tiny package. Show your built-in photo album to a group from several feet away instead of inches away from the screen. The touch screen makes life so easy. I don't see replacing this one for a long time and then, it should have great resale making it a great investment with less yearly cost.

Ever since i took this camera out of the box the experience has been pure bliss easy to use, great pictures and that stunning 3" touch screen just great all this amounts to one of the best crimbo pressies for awhile top marks to Sony for rolling out another best seller!!

I bought this camera for my boyfriend for Christmas and I have never seen him that happy. It is such a beautiful present. The touch screen makes the camera so easy to use and once you've used a 3 inch screen for five minutes all the others look very inferior. It has excellent quality and is the perfect size. Highly recommended.

The Best compact digital camera ever. Period.

I love the 3" screen but had no idea that this camera would provide a slide show in 4 modes with matching music! It's a pleasure to use and I've been reviewing the pictures over and over with very little battery usage. Overall, this camera far surpasses my expectations.

I just got the camera a few days ago and so far it
is absolutely incredible. The huge screen and
the slide show with music are out of this world.
This is by far the best digital camera available.
The battery life is also great. I have used it for hours on the initial charging.
If you can afford this camera, it is definitely worth the money.
Thanks SONY.

I'm in love with this camera, 8.1 mp, 3" lcd touch screen... a guy says that the t-7 is better... no way, the t-7 has a smaller lens so less light comes in... the dscn1 have clearer picture!

I wanted something pocketable but with features, I was surprised by the image quality and love the 3" screen. It does everything I wanted with some nice extras, great camera. ( I was lucky I already had some memory stick pro duo cards from my Sony PSP)

By far the best made camera on the market. Give it a few more weeks I'm sure it'll match if not beat all of canon reviews. Stunning 3 touch screen LCD with 8.1 Megapixels!!
