Sony Cybershot S700
Editor's Review
The Sony Cybershot S700 isn't anything to get excited about, but instead a simple, dependable point-and-shoot camera that will give novice users some room to grow. The 7.1 megapixel sensor is a good start, as it will provide large and detailed images right from the get-go, and the built-in guide that appears on the LCD screen when you select a feature explains what everything does for those unfamiliar with the finer points of digital photography.

Sony Cybershot S700 Comments & Questions (write your own!)
Next, try resetting the camera back to factory defaults and download and install any available firmware updates. If these don't help, then I'm betting it needs a repair.
Go to the menu setup and check whether this is true, if so, turn it to on.
Be warned.
The enelope precharged batteries will work fine as long as the camera can take AA batteries. Keep in mind that several manufacturers make pre-charged batteries so you don't necessarily have to buy Sanyo Enelopes. I have used Duracel precharged and Radioshack and they both work pretty well. The big advantage is that these batteries hold a charge a lot longer than normal AA rechargeables so you will not have to recharge your batteries as frequently! Regular NiMH batteries will lose all of their charge after 1 month (even if you don't use them) whereas the precharged can hold their charge for a year.

Excellent! Glad you figured it out and that you posted it here so others could benefit.
As far as memory cards... Sony let's you use any memory card brand you'd like, as long as it's Sony-brand. Haha! Damn Sony's proprietary formats. This camera, as well as all Sony's products, only uses their Sony Duo or Pro Duo cards.
2) Sony sell its own memory stick duo, pro duo....now days other reputed companies also sell same memory sticks for half the price. I have used such ones, so I know it works as fine as original sony ones....
As for the memory card, there is an adapter you can buy that lets you use micro sd cards in cameras that use memory stick pro duo. Micro Sd cards are a lot cheaper than memory stick and the additional benefit is that you can use them in most non sony devices. I use this on my Sony H7 and it works great! Here is a link to a review for this adapter

But frankly, it may be better to simply get SONY to give you a repair estimate. Rule of thumb is that if you get an estimate that is north of 50% what you paid for it, you're better off taking that money and buying a newer, more updated model.

Sony 7.2MP, digital camera DSC-S700, my manual got destroyed and I do enjoy using my camera, it is compact and very easy to use. I don't understand all of the symbols on the dial on top of the camera.
thanks for any information.

Worst camera I ever had. I have to change the batteries every time I go and use it. Sometimes I have to turn it off and back on again just to take a picture.

I too thought I was upgrading from my coolpix to the sony (4 years newer and more mega pixel) however, the sony is far inferior to the 5 year old nikon i had. I am so disappointed, I don't have extra money to put out for a digital camera and the one that I have is just horrible now. If only I could repair the battery door on my coolpix I would use that one again. My son received a digital camera with some type of utube option and it takes WAY better pictures than mine.

Sony S700 is a decent deal at the price you are paying for. With 7 mega pix and Sony's trust, its recommended for first timers. It takes good pictures, provided you know how to take good pitcures. No bad words for it. Good camera for what it is priced at. Of course, dont expect features like face detection, anti shake DSP, AF illuminator etc. I won't say it shoots great pictures, since I played with the high end ones.As I told before, good camera for first timers.....value for money.....Just learn how to use MAcro, ISO, flash, you can take good pictures with it.

You can Record through S-700 but the biggest drawback is whileyou play your recorded thing on S-700 u cannot listen to the sound because u cannot record the sound while recording which was not told by my vendor from whom i purchased the SONY DIGITAL CAMERA S-700 so it is why according to me the worst camera or they should have not given the option of recording itself

I found it blurs quite easily and when I import the pictures a lot of the time the pixels look computer generated. I have a older larger sony that I think is 3. something and it seems to take a better picture. I'm wondering if something is wrong with mine. I novice that has been playing around sometime and I figured I'd upgrade but, it's more like a down grade to me:(
