The Sony Cybershot TX1 is a challenge to Fuji's traditional strength: low-light performance. Poor low light performance is a perennial complaint for casual photographers, and the TX1 aims to resolve it with their Exmor R CMOS sensor, which they claim provides stunning, superior image quality in environments lacking sufficient light. Since its release, the TX1 has earned plenty of fans. It's possibly the top-performing ultra-compact model available right now.

I'm a little bit confused.. the TX1 is given an A while the TX5 and TX7 are both given A-. Does this mean the TX1 is better? I bought the TX1 online (it's still in the mail) because it was rated higher and it's cheaper.. but that's strange because it was released earlier.

It means that in our mind, it's a better deal, but not necessarily a better camera. The price plays a big part, but I'd expect the image quality to be the same on both -- with the TX1, you don't get a few of the more advanced features on the TX7, but you don't pay for them either.
If you end up deciding that you want to trade up to the TX7, most dealers will have no problem accepting exchanges within few weeks of purchase -- just check the exchange policy with whichever merchant you bought it from.

Oh thanks! Now it makes sense. Since it's only for my personal use, and quality is really all I want, I'll stick with the TX1. :)

You can get any SDHC card. These run through 32 GB.

Sorry, we don't have that information. However, if you take the cost in US dollars and input that into Google with conversion to rupees, it'll get you close.

The TX7 is an updated version of the TX1. Same body basically, but updated features like a better video mode, press and sweep panorama, and its allegedly better in low light.
TX5 is a "tough" camera, you can drop it, dunk it in water, etc. But the picture quality on those models is never that good. I'd say so with the TX7 out of those three.

I'm sure you can still get a memory card for it. Just be aware of what the camera's space limitations are and check at Amazon.com.

Sony's touch screens all have one marketable advantage in that they are resistive, meaning that they understand when and where they are being pressed. This means that you won't have the cool cross finger zooming action like one may have on an iPhone or the like... but it does mean you can use gloves, or lcd protectors, or work with it in the cold... losing the zoom feature suddenly becomes much less of an issue.
As with Smartphones, ease of us is in the GUI and Sony tends to do well as they are considered leaders in integration and interface design. The cameras tend to be well laid out and easy to use, usually right out of the box. Finding your way around any camera is an exercise in repetition but I think it safe to say that the T series cameras would make pretty much anyone happy.

The rated flash distance of the TX1 (3.0m) is substantially lower than the T900 (4.5M). What will this difference mean in taking pictures indoors? Any feedback would be appreciated. Thank you.

Well, it's nominal no matter what. The flashes are designed around small groups and portraits. So outside that range, both are largely useless. And I'd even consider the T900 realistically at around 4 since those benchmarks are under ideal conditions.

Thank you for the feedback. I understand the main reason for preferring the TX1 is because of the benefit of the CMOS and taking pictures with low light indoors. Does the fact that a shot with the Sony TX1 indoors with little light and without using a flash make it worth $ 400.00 as opposed to the $300.00 for the Sony T900 or are there other factors I should consider?

I think it all comes down to chip size. CMOS or CCD, if the chip size is the same and it's stuffed with MP, it wouldn't be. But if my memory serves, the CMOS is larger and as such, handles the MP with far more wiggle room. I will say this though, at ISOs above 800, the noise is REALLY noticeable and at 1600 and above the image really breaks down. So in that regard, I'd say no, it wouldn't be.

They are basically the same cameras with some subtle differences. Sometimes it's a wider lens, sometimes it's a different color. Sony does have a comparison feature. Select both models, check compare and you'll get the specs side by side.

Excellent light and colors

Simple to use, the sensors produces some sweet colors (better than my previous Canon).
Great photos are possible without flash, so you can take great photos indoors.
I've only used it for 3 months but it always takes excellent pictures.
Just one negative point, there are many automatic modes but just a few manual settings (e.g. no speed adjustment), a few predefined settings like sports, faces, etc. but no way to adjust them.
