Why is the LCD display grainy while taking pictures and afterwards its ok? can anyone pls state the reason ?

It has to render. You get an initially quick and dirty image to show you it took, and then it renders and writes to the card, giving you a clearer picture. This is a camera, not a display, so it has to work harder to get there.

Yes you can with any digital camera. I'd still recommend taking pictures in color with the camera and then changing them to black and white afterwards.

Not Recommended for shooting quality images (Faraz — 12/23/2010)
Considering a 12.1 MP camera, the image quality is very poor for indoor shooting. Pictures are not sharp and colors are also not true. For night shooting this cam does't have AF illuminator.. Conclusion: Its better to buy a 8 - 10 MP cam which shows true colors and sharp images rather to buy this cam with blury & dull images and not having illuminator.

Megapixel count doesn't have much to do with picture quality at all, so it's not the 12 mp sensor that's the culprit.

This Camera does not have optical Image stabilization. It just has Digital Image Stabilization. They are trying to confuse the consumer by saying STeadySHot camera!! Do not buy this.

Some Sony cameras can be used as a webcam (usa.canon.com/cusa/support/... but the issue is you won't have audio or control over focus. You're really better off using a dedicated webcam like the Logitech Webcam Pro 9000 or the Microsoft Cinema HD. But if you don't want to do that, and you have a camcorder running firewire, that'll work as well.

It's sad that it dosen't ZOOM while Filming. I purcheased it and got to know after I tried to make a short Video-film. Can this issue be solved?

No, this is an issue with camera hardware. Lower cost cameras like this one rarely have zoom during video unfortunately.

We don't really have that information, sadly. Exchange rates change several times a day and so it's hard to say. Best we can advise is to do a currency conversion of a price in USD and you'll at least be in the ballpark.

Most point and shoot's don't since motor noise is picked up by the mic. IMHO, that's the case with the W series. So no.

Hi Friends since 28 Days back i bought this camera and this is the worst digicam from sony, believe me even your 5 Megapixel Phone will give you better quality than this, For 1 Better Pic you have to shoot yourself for 10 to 15 times, Only good for taking passport size photos. Don't waste your money for this model seriously. I am looking for Replacement....i dunno know will i get or not..or i'll just give to anybody coz i don't want that cam infront of my eye. Heart Breaking Model from sony.

good pictures good video nice screen,small,easy to use..accepts Sony or SD memory up to 32 Gig.Nice lcd screen.28 MM wide angle is a nice touch. ISO of 3200 in a pinch...stay at ISO400 or below.CAN'T take video and zoom at same time.Have some fun with family,friends,travel ... take some pics forget tech stuff for a while.

Not sure what you guys R saying about blurry, bad low light. carp etc..., Before this Sony baby, I had a Canon, Nikon, Fujifilm, and this Sony W310 by far the best of them all in the price range. Bought it yesterday and took some shots in my bedroom with just sleeping on, the picture was amazingly bright and clear to details. Pictures are even better than my complicated DSLR canon camera.

Close your eyes n go 4 it, if u have tight pocket. You got to have little photography exp in order to take nice night mode shots. Otherwise superb day time shots can be obtained with a baby hand.

Its cute, nice and compact. Many times the pic is really superb at daylight. But while using the flash, at times the object gets its worst image in my camera...i really cant predict whether the image will be good or not while at low light conditions (while using flash). But ultimately its better only...

Makes nice fuzzy pictures

It seemed like a nice camera for the sale price of $99, but it has a fatal flaw in the lens. At 28mm it is soft and at the telephoto setting it is uselessly soft. The lens also has a lot of lens flare caused by the internal reflections in the lens itself, not caused by the sun or some other non-image forming light source. The 14million pixel resolution is completely wasted by the lens since it does not outresolve my 8MP camera with a better lens. This camera will do OK for people shots at close distances, but beyond that it is not good. The flash is also quite underpowered for anything other than shooting small groups of a few people at a table. Don't try and make big prints or show the pictures on a large monitor because the lack of sharpness will disappoint. The design is nice enough and the specs are nice for the price, but without sharp pictures you will be frustrated.
After three weeks with this camera, I am already looking for it's replacement.

Very poor in low light conditions, the flash is too strong(unable to adjust) and faces come out nearly white!! My 8 year olds much chaeper camera takes better shots in low light.
