Best Digital Cameras with Wi-Fi / Wireless Capability
Last updated on 03/01/2011
For photographers on the go, dealing with memory cards or internal hard-drives can be a nuisance. No one wants to miss a picture-perfect moment because the camera has run out of space! Luckily, camera manufacturers have slowly started to make the leap to wireless technology. Although this new technology is limited by the availability of Wi-Fi signals, it offers another option for users who wish to streamline the uploading process.
The Nikon Coolpix s52c is a smart, ultracompact camera that provides users with a variety of wireless uploading options. The camera uploads photos to Nikon's myPicturetown, and through this system, users can send pictures through e-mail or to cell phones. Also, the camera comes with a free six-month subscription to T-Mobile's Hotspot service allowing users to upload photos while in any Starbucks or other sponsored store. The Wi-Fi capability of the s52c is certainly its most marketable feature, but with its dazzling 3-inch LCD display, 9-megapixel resolution, and portability, the camera is a good bet.

The clumsy Sony Cybershot DSC-G1 is a Wi-Fi camera that has no redeeming qualities. The DSC-G1 cannot upload photos using a standard wireless connection; rather, you can upload pictures by connecting the camera to a DLNA (Digital Living Network Alliance) device. If you don't know any DLNA devices, that's because they aren't popular (Playstation 3 is the only DLNA device of note). In addition to the almost useless Wi-Fi capability, the DSC-G1 has a plethora of poorly conceived features—including an MP3 player. If you are looking for a sensible camera, steer clear of this catastrophe.

Panasonic's Lumix TZ50's user-friendly wireless uploading feature allows you to upload photos onto a Picasa Web Album account from home or any other Wi-Fi signal. Purchase of the camera also gets you a one year subscription to T-Mobile's Hotspot service. But the TZ50's Wi-Fi capability is not its only attractive feature. A 10x optical zoom, a wide-angle lens, and the ability to record video in 720p HD make the TZ50 a formidable camera.
